Brian Talbot's Rushden and Diamonds side have finally acheived their objective of pormotion to the Football League. The defeat of Yeovil by Hereford last night gave the Conference title to the Northamptonshire club.

Suffolk born Talbot, a stalwart of Bobby Robson's mid-seventies Town team, has been their manager since March 1997 and with Dr Marten's millionaire Max Griggs' cash behind him promotion is long overdue.

Town played a friendly at Nene Park in 1997 winning 5-3, Alex Mathie scoring a hat-trick.

Just noticed another error with the sponsor report. I reckon most will have worked it out, but the figures are £4 million over three years basic, plus another £3 million dependent on performance in League, cups, Europe. Apologies missed them on the final read through.
