Owner Evans Releases Statement

Town owner Marcus Evans has issued a statement in which he says he has no regrets about buying the club, a year on from his takeover. The publicity shy magnate says he has already spent more than £20 million on the club and urges fans to back manager Jim Magilton.

Evans said in a piece in tonight's programme: "As of this evening we are 13 games into the new season and, I think you'll all agree, we have had a somewhat indifferent start to the campaign.

"Personally, my bank balance has a £20 million hole in it (which could probably buy me at least one high street bank and a small country in today's financial climate!) and there have been some calls for the manager to be hung, drawn and quartered in the Buttermarket at the very least. Some people are even writing stories that seem to suggest the world is about to end for this football club.

"So, am I having second thoughts about my investment in the club? Would I wind back the clock to December last year and run a mile from David Sheepshanks with my chequebook safely in my pocket? Absolutely and categorically not. In truth, having been involved with Ipswich and seen the club, the backroom staff, the players and the manager over the last 10 months, and how they work, I would run even faster to get a piece of this great club and to use all avenues open to me to get us back to the Premier League.”
