Bowden Holding Bruce Talks
Bowden Holding Bruce Talks
Monday, 3rd Nov 2008 13:55

Chief executive Derek Bowden has revealed that he is holding talks with Alex Bruce's agent today regarding extending the central defender's stay at Portman Road. The Irish international's current terms are up next summer.

Bowden told TWTD this morning: "There are conversions which are ongoing. I'm seeing his agent at 12 o'clock today. Things are progressing and we may say something about it later today,

"But we're not in a great hurry, we've got two months before January when Alex can talk to other clubs. We're hopeful he'll sign a new contract.”

Bowden says the club was pleased to extend Jon Walters's stay at the club until 2012: "Getting Jon secured was good. That took a few weeks or to-ing and fro-ing for various reasons but it was good to get that done.

"Jon had a contract until 2011, but we wanted to extend it by a year because it protects ‘the asset', we'd previously done the same with Owen Garvan and Pablo. The longer the period of the contract, the higher the fee, not that we want to sell any of them, but it's good protection.”

Bowden says other unnamed players are also in talks regarding new deals: "It's ongoing. Jim, Bryan and I went through all the contracts on Friday, so we've got some thoughts regarding extending or not extending players' contracts.

"But that can change, depending on injuries and offers, and with the January window coming, we'll wait and see what transpires there before we renew more contracts.”
