Skipper Gareth McAuley says watching a video of Sunday's woeful display at Norwich provided the Blues with the right motivation ahead of last night's 3-1 victory over Bristol City.

McAuley relived the game a couple of times and said it wasn't pleasant viewing: "We watched a replay of Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Norwich City and it was even more embarrassing than it seemed at the time. It was a real video nasty.

"We watched it together at the training ground, and like a number of players I took a copy home and watched it again.

"We owed it to ourselves to improve on that. There were so many things that we did not do and it was not nice looking at it. It told us a few home truths and could prove a turning point.”

The Town captain says referee Paul Taylor stood by his decision to show Alex Bruce a straight red card after watching the tackle again after the match: "The referee watched a video of the incident and confirmed that he believed he took the right action.”

The Blues are considering an appeal against the dismissal, which if it stands will see Bruce receive a four-match ban. However, if the FA deem an appeal frivolous, the central defender could have an additional game added to his suspension.

Robins striker Nicky Maynard received only grazed shins in the challenge which saw Bruce red-carded.
