Midfielder Liam Trotter says he would consider a permanent move to loan club Grimsby when the transfer window opens in January. Trotter has already been with the Mariners for the 93-day short-term loan limit, so would have to move permanently if he were to stay at Blundell Park.

Trotter said: "I would definitely be interested in coming back. I don't know what is going to happen at Ipswich because I have got to check out my options and see what the club are saying.

"When January comes around, if coming back is an option then I will definitely look at it.

"The most important thing for me is to be playing regular first team football. The fact the club is fighting relegation from the bottom division is not an issue for me at all.

"If anything, it is a learning curve which maybe all players should experience at some point in their career. It is an experience which can only help me in the future."

Trotter says he has been particularly impressed with new Grimsby boss Mike Newell: "I really like the way the manager talks to people and I really like his persona. I get along well with him and I like playing for him. That would definitely be a good reason to come back."

Reports in Lincolnshire suggest that Town may be willing to sell 20-year-old Trotter, a member of the 2005 FA Youth Cup-winning side, whose contract is up at the end of the season, while Newell is said to be interested in a deal.
