Town to Appoint Clegg?

Town are reported to be close to appointing former British Olympic Association chief executive Simon Clegg as the new face of the club. Clegg left his role with the BOA at the end of last year after 19 years.

Club owner Marcus Evans is said to have been in discussions with the 49-year-old regarding a £250,000-a-year job with Town which would see him become the face of the club.

Clegg led Team GB's athletes in Beijing last summer and at the previous 11 Olympics, having joined them in January 1989 as the organisation's assistant general secretary after previously being in the army, where he rose to the rank of major.

The 49-year-old was awarded an OBE in 2000, an MBE six years later and is likely to be knighted in the wake of the success in Beijing.

Clegg looks set to come in as the public face of the club with Marcus Evans keen to keep a low profile and chairman David Sheepshanks less prominent since moving to a non-executive role in summer.

Town are yet to comment on the report.
