Midfielder Jai Reason says he could join Cambridge United permanently at the end of the season. The 19-year-old, out of contract with Town in June, is enjoying a highly successful loan spell at the Abbey Stadium.

Reason says he has been impressed with the Cambridge support is hoping to end his season by joining them at a Wembley play-off final: "I looked on YouTube and saw a fans video of the play-off semi-final last year, when about 7,000 fans were on the pitch celebrating beating Burton Albion. It was outrageous!

"Cambridge's supporters are amazing - they create an unbelievable atmosphere for non-league games. I'm loving every minute of it and I know the clubs are already talking about extending the loan deal for the end of the season to include the play-offs.

"To be in the reserves at Ipswich, not really going anywhere, and then to get a chance with Cambridge with the possibility of Wembley is surreal.

"I read there were 42,000 at Wembley last May for the play-off final. That's what you dream about as a kid - playing at the national stadium in front of that sort of crowd.

"When the summer comes, I'll have to sit down with both parties, but going to Cambridge United is definitely in my head.”

Meanwhile, Preston boss Alan Irvine says he can understand why Town decided not to allow Veliche Shumulikoski to join his club on loan: "I'd have done exactly the same if the boot had been on the other foot.

"I wouldn't let any of my players go out on loan to any of our perceived competitors.

"You are not going to help your opponents in a situation like this. We made a little bit of an enquiry just in case he would be available and we got a firm 'no'. That was it.

"We became aware that there was a possibility the boy might be available to go out on loan.

"Quite simply we made a phone call to see if that was the case. It wasn't even directly to Jim – he and I haven't even spoken about it.

"But the response we got was that he wasn't available for loan. And it was made clear to us that even if he was, they wouldn't want to do it for us at this time.

"I can understand that. If it was the other way round then I wouldn't lend Ipswich a player.

"It would be different if it was a club down the bottom end of the league. But why on earth would I help out someone near us on points?

"It is hardly anything really. And I don't want people thinking there has been any problem between me and Jim. There is no ill feeling at all between us and Ipswich."
