Pablo Scores Hat-trick
Pablo Scores Hat-trick

New Town signing Pablo Couñago last night scored a stunning hat-trick as the Spanish U21s beat Bosnia 5-1. The striker will join Town on July 1st and is rated as a superb prospect in Spain.

Couñago struck on 15, 73 and 76 to put his side second in their qualifying group. The Town man's performance was rated as stunning by Spanish observers and his transfer has caused a bit of a stink back home.

Pablo's failure to break into the Celta Vigo team and subsequent need to move abroad in order to play a decent level of football has led to discussion about the number of foreigners in Spanish football.

Titus Bramble faces a race against time to make the England U21s game with Greece on Tuesday night. Titus didn't travel with the squad as he has to attend his grandmother's funeral on Monday.

George Burley said: "It will be touch and go as to whether he can make it or not, but he is really hoping to play. I have spoken to Howard Wilkinson and he knows that it will be really tight, but I know Titus will do all he can to get out there in time."

It appears one of Town's pre-season friendlies may be against Irish club Bray Wanderers at their Carlisle Grounds. Last month Town said they were arranging further games with matches in Holland or Ireland likely.

No date is given for the proposed game while Bray are also lining up games with Coventry City, Darlington and Northampton.
