Trotter and Scunthorpe in Play-Offs
Saturday, 2nd May 2009 17:59

Liam Trotter and Scunthorpe made it into the League One play-offs via a last gasp equaliser from skipper Cliff Byrne as they drew 1-1 at home to Tranmere, who finished a place behind them in seventh. Trotter came on as an 80th minute sub having recovered from the virus which kept him out of action earlier in the week.

The Iron now face the MK Dons in the play-offs as they continue to push for a quick return to the Championship.

Elsewhere, Billy Clarke played for the first 70 minutes of League Two champions Brentford's 2-0 home win against Luton but failed to add to his goals. The Irishman ends his spell with the Bees having scored six goals in eight games.

The Blue Square Premier ended last week, but Jai Reason is likely to be in action for Cambridge in the second leg of their play-off against Stevenage on Monday. Boro are 3-1 up from the first leg.

Dan Harding is set to make his third appearance for automatic promotion-chasing Reading against Birmingham on Sunday.

Meanwhile, on the final day of the League One and League Two season, former Blues Nicky Forster and Richard Logan netted important goals.

Forster scored the only goal as Brighton won 1-0 at home to Stockport to secure their League One status, while Logan netted the winner for Exeter at Rotherham as the Grecians won promotion from League Two, their second successive elevation. Another former Blue, Marcus Stewart, missed the game through injury.
