Keeper Shane Supple says he is close to signing a new contract with the Blues. The Republic of Ireland U21 international was one of the 13 Town players out of contract at the end of the season and was one of the three to be offered new terms.

Supple told the club site: "I spoke to the manager and he has offered me a new contract and it's just a case of discussing a couple of things with the club.

"I want to stay and I'm sure it will all be sorted out very soon, but I'm not signing just to sit around as back up keeper.

"The manager has said that everyone will get a chance to show what they can do and it's an opportunity for me to impress him and press for a place in the team for the start of the season.

"There are players that he will not have seen play before and who have been out of the picture here who will be looking to stake a claim to play and I will be one of them.

"I get on really well with Wrighty and I was really pleased for him last season. He was playing well and ended up skippering the team, but I want to put as much pressure as possible on him for his place next year."

The 22-year-old made only one appearance for Town last season, in the Carling Cup tie at home to Leyton Orient, but also spent time on loan with Oldham.

During his time with the Latics, Supple was regularly watched by former Blues keeper-coach Andy Rhodes, who these days fulfils a similar role with Preston North End.

Meanwhile, ex-Town boss Jim Magilton is reported to be closing in on the QPR manager's job. The Northern Irishman is said to be in talks with Rangers today, having initially been interviewed at Loftus Road a week ago.
