![]() Wednesday, 1st Jul 2009 16:28 Midfielder Liam Trotter has signed his new one-year deal with the club. Trotter was out of contract with the Blues yesterday and had been interesting his former loan club Scunthorpe. The 20-year-old told the club site that he thought his days with his hometown side were coming to an end: "I spoke to the manager and he said he wanted me to stay here, which was obviously a big boost for me. "I'll admit I was a bit surprised. At the end of last season I thought I would be moving on from Ipswich. I enjoyed my time at Scunthorpe and their manager wanted me to go there. "But with a new manager here, it's a fresh start. The manager has said I'll get the chance to show what I can do and that's probably the major factor in me staying. "I've not really progressed at Ipswich over the last year or two, but this is a new opportunity for me." Scunthorpe are believed to have offered Trotter a three-year deal, prompting a report claiming that the Town academy product had opted to join the Iron, however this proved to be without foundation. Trotter is the last of the four out of contract players to be offered a new deal to sign, Alex Bruce, Ed Upson and Shane Supple having already put pen to paper.
