Central defender Troy Brown has joined the Blues on a one-year deal from Fulham after a successful trial at the end of last season. The Welsh U19 international impressed in a number of reserve games at the tail end of 2008/09.

TWTD was first to reveal that the 18-year-old was spending time with the Blues back in April when he was in the second string side which thrashed Southend 7-3 at Roots Hall.

Brown, who also had spells on trial at Charlton last season, continued to impress in the reserve games at Peterborough and Leyton Orient with new manager Roy Keane having been at Brisbane Road to catch him in action.

Released by Fulham's academy at the end of last season, Brown had done enough in his first two games to be offered a deal by Jim Magilton and then won new man Keane over as well.

Brown, who has won Wales caps at U17 level in addition to his five for the U19s, told the club site that he is chuffed to have impressed two Town bosses during his trial: "I suppose it's a bit different, having to impress two managers to get a contract here but I'm delighted.

"Jim Magilton offered me a deal after I had been at Ipswich a couple of weeks and then the new manager came in and I played in the reserves against Leyton Orient and it went OK.

"The manager has said that I will get a chance to show what I can do this season and I'm looking forward to the opportunity.

"I was disappointed when Fulham let me go. I had been there since I was seven and I still love the club, but I want to prove them wrong and this is a chance for me to do that.

"My aim is to break into the first team here. I know that is not going to be easy but that has to be the target and if I do that, it will improve my chances of extending my contract here."

Town initially spotted Brown playing in an exit trial after Fulham had told him he wasn't going to be offered a contract at Craven Cottage.
