North Stand Threat
North Stand Threat

TWTD has learnt that Town faced a judicial review last Friday over the building of the new North Stand. Local residents have continued their fight against the new development even after planning permission was granted on April 25th. Town won the review, but the residents have seven days from last Friday to appeal against the ruling.

In judicial review proceedings, a court is asked to rule on the appropriateness of a decision, in this case the planning permission given by the council. Judicial review is often based on alleged unfair procedures, apparently the claim of the residents. If the residents are successful in their appeal they could bring the development of the stand to a complete halt.

Prior to planning permission being given residents said they were unhappy at the haste with which the stand’s plans progressed, feeling that it had been foisted on them and that it would reduce the value of their homes. One resident said at the time: “It would have been nice if the quality of our lives had been taken into consideration. We have over 50 objections to the development.”

We’re hoping to have the club’s point of view later on today.
