Keane Looking for Town to Push On
Keane Looking for Town to Push On
Wednesday, 4th Nov 2009 13:14

Town boss Roy Keane says his side now need to “push on” after claiming their first league win of the season against Derby County. The Blues travel to Reading’s Madejski Stadium on Saturday looking to claim a second win and a quick escape from the bottom three.

Keane told the club site: "We certainly won't be sitting back now after the win over Derby. We know we have to push on from here because we have a massive challenge ahead of us and that starts with a very important game at Reading this weekend.

"The win is a monkey off the players' backs, if I can put it that way. We all have our pride and it was hurting us and hurting the fans.

"We have not given our supporters much to shout about lately, although over the last four or five weeks we have played some good stuff but not got the results.

"On Saturday we didn't play well but got the win and now we have to kick on against Reading."

Meanwhile, a Berkshire newspaper has revealed that Town paid a loan fee of £200,000 for Reading full-back Liam Rosenior when he moved to Portman Road for the rest of the season in August. As we revealed on Monday, the 25-year-old is able to face his parent club at the weekend.

Elsewhere, Notts County are the latest club linked with Sheffield Wednesday central defender Richard Wood. Town, Coventry and Sheffield United have previously been linked with Wood, who has been transfer-listed by the Owls.

There was me thinking he'd want to regroup for awhile after the win!

I'll support the Town cause they are my team, but I'm still not sold on Mr Keane

Come on you Blues!!!!!

Callum - you know I for one do respect your comments as do you with mine, so whether no matter what the outcome brings i know both us want the town to perfom and hopefully fingers crossed a win, but if not we will both be ipswich supporters following the game - just with different views on the future

Cashandcarrydreamer you really are a minge.
So far there are about 25 postings on here, with 20% made up of your pointless drivel.I enjoy a wager and I bet you've been told before about liking the sound of your own voice.

Calm down children....Think of it this way, none of you, have the autority or the power to get rid of RK. So whether you want him to stay or go is redundant This posturing 'If we don't win on saturday I want him out!' is actually quite laughable and childish, what you going to do? Pout? Or are you going to be one of the morons that boo our team or hold up bed sheets? If so you are the exact type of fan that we DON'T WANT! And don't give me this clap trap that you pay your money so have the right. I say keep your money we don't want nor need it and pi$$ off up to Carrot Rd. We have RK as manager whether you like him or not your job as supporters is SUPPORT SUPPORT SUPPORT and nothing else. Some of you seem to be almost willing RK to fail...remember RK succeeds Ipswch succeeds. Oh one thing more someone said Prisken is a striker who can't do one on ones. Considering Prisken has been sitting on a bench and not playing, considering their goalkeeper made and excellent save does not mean he can't do one on ones and it is unfair to brand him as such. I have seen the worlds greatest players fail in one on ones at times doesn't mean they are no good at it all it means is they failed on that occassion. COYB!

WickedBlue: Yep generally agree with your sentiments (and especially re:Priskin) but your idea of support differs from mine.

I'll support the team when I watch them (and I am a season ticket holder) to the hilt. And I agree with you that those that boo and take banners are unwelcome.

But you seem to suggest that on a comments board specifically put in place so we can discuss our feelings about the team's performances etc that I can't put up postings with my actual feelings about how things are going - and let's face it I'm one of the ones not happy at being bottom.

I think a lot of the banter on here has been interesting (and some of it mad). The biggest gripe I have with it is that some of the negative posters receive direct abuse. There's no excuse for that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and people should respect that.

Fair play to SuperfludeBlue. His postings are massively optimistic in my eyes, but he is always happy to discuss and try to explain his opinions rather than resort to childish name-calling and abuse. Your post and his seem to be in the minority from the pro-Keane brigade.

Yes, that's a generalisation and sorry to the positive posters out there who aren't abusive.

Glad Noel Hunt is not playing against us on Saturday. He would give our defenders lots of problems if he was fit. Brian Murphy has won the League of Ireland Cahampionship over her with Bohemians. He should be on his way to Ipswich sometime next week

Naa - appreciate that you understand my over optism lol
i think you have two types of support and one type of fan.
the two support types are someone like me and someone like yourself, i'm always looking ahead on hope, and if things come good then great but if they dont then i scream, where as you're a today person which is not a bad thing at all its just a different way of lookign at things - thats why i respect all of yours and callums comments - sometimes callum gets a bit personal - but having said that people do to him as well.
The fan i was talking about is the one that demands success, demands everything and unless they dont get it they boo - for me booing is not supporting in any way at all.
so Naa - callum, please always leave your comments as i for one do enjoy reading them from the other "type" of support
hope none of my comments here are taking with any kind of offence

Wickedblue..i do not want Keane to go ,but as supporters it is our job to support the team ,not Roy Keane .Ipswich will be here long after Mr Keane is gone and other players and managers will come and go some we will love and some we will hate . IMO Keane has made a lot of errors which we hope his has learnt by and will turn our season around ,if not he will probably go that is football . Anyone who does pay their money does and should have a say whatever the viewpoint, and the club does need the money badly from all supporters as crowds at Portman Road are dropping.
The reason Priskin has been sitting on the bench is also due to Keane he selects the team and changes the strikers every week ,which could be why they all look a little nervous in front of goal IMO ?
I agree that if Keane gets it right Town will succeed but until that happens it is a little premature to be defending someone so strongly who has taken us to bottom of the league and played alot of average and poor football along the way Watford and 60 mins against Sheff Utd aside ?
Come On Town and Come On Roy forTowns Sake !!!

Superblueflude - I would never come out and randomly start abusing people for there comments. I abuse people in my defense, I have said it before and will say it now, never do i start by calling someone names, it is always after someone has got lemon to me! I think its all a bit of fun on here and some people think I hate Ipswich cos I hate the manager!
Naa is right and the people who come out and abuse are alway the pro keaners after me or UEFA81 or some other 'Keane outer' has posted a comment. That does not count for all of them!

I think and believe we should be battling ito ut at the right end ofthis league like we have for so many years, Keane comes in and all of a sudden were relegation candidates! I cant believe people get berated for hating him!

callum can i just ask though and be honest - do you hate keane for where ipswich are
or do you hate keane for being the guy he is?

I have always not liked him for his past and attitude (the haaland thing will always be how i remember him), now I dont like him because of that and the fact we are bottom and have only won one in 15!
If he takes us up the table, I will still not like him but will want him as our manager none the less - its a results business! But at this moment in time I dont want him here and can name several people I would have as his replacement!

Dingus I buoght a new keyboard so as long as the tissues are plentiful I will be ok ha!

Callum, i do not approve of violence or intimidation as a means of communication, however every man has the right to defend himself. Haaland was not an innocent victim in all this, he drew first blood. All great teams have had a 'hard man' in their ranks, if not they would have been kicked off the park. We as ipswich supporters are all too well aware of this. ( Bolton, play off semi -final to give just one example).
This does not mean that Roy is a raving nutter. Listen to the things he says in his interviews. He is a family man and is always mentioning them. When did you ever hear of him falling out of nightclubs early hours, or breaking some womans nose because she wouldn't sleep with him or getting caught drink driving. he also seems to be a religious man. I listen to him and i like what he has to say, i respect him for his achievements in football, for his never say die attitude and his honest effort. He has come under attack from all angles in the media since he joined us, Dwight Yorke, this player, that player, but former players of his seem happy to follow him to Ipswich. If what we read about him was true, they wouldn't come for a million a week. it is my belief that he has dealt with all of this in a dignified manner. I respect him for this as well.
Like him or hate him he is part of our team and when one of our own is attacked we should all rally round. That is what a 'family' club would do. Although the results this season so far have been disappointing, the support shown by our fans in adversity especially in the last 2 home games has been uplifting to my spirit and made me prouder than ever to be Ipswich. Managers are given no time by fans nowadays, expecting or demanding instant success, we however are different, solid down to earth people, we know the sun will still more than likely come up again tomorrow and that crops do not grow in a day. We dont disrespect our opponents or wish them ill, and even though we are happy to win, we can spare a thought for the losers as well

Reading are in a similar position to us, a decent team underperforming. A win on sat would be terrific.
Come on idiots just do what you seem so reluctent to do and support your team.
And it would be a quick escape cause if you think about it we've been in the bottom three al season and at this rate it will only take two games to get out with a win on sat.
Onwards and upwards

yes but we are not dead in the water yet and until it is no longer mathematicaly possible to make the play offs i will keep dreaming. However even if we do not get a shot at promotion, then i will settle for safety and a side that fills me with excitement for the next season. On this second point i genuinely believe i see the seeds of this germinating now and i am still excited about the future and the direction our team is moving in performance wise. Many teams in our position would start to implode, in fighting, lack of confidence, knee jerk reactions, but we are improving and playing with more confidence. Derby came to frustrate us (and who can blame them with their dire injury situation) Did u ever think we could win a game 1-0 ? I'm naturally optimistic and i was convinced we would need at least a two goal lead in order to win our first game. The Derby result was an illustration of the mental toughness and character developing in the team. Their determination to see it through, and not by packing the defence either, we could have sealed the win late on. This is why i am increasingly confident we will start seeing more positive results and pull clear of danger. We were 22nd in November one season when burley was here and we missed out on automatic promotion on goal difference only.

CGS - Dude, you get berated for hating him because u cant see a bigger picture. You say we've gone from being promotion to relegation, but that is such a flippant attitude and culture.

Did Britain all turn around in 1941 when our country was on our knees and say, "God, this Churchill is awful, god, back in his early days he was laughed at in parliament and now this mug runs the country.. we should get rid of him.. all i know is we were a world super power and now we lose massive battles and any minute, we could be invaded.. blah churchill out blah.."

No. Because there are hundreds of factors an intelligent onlooker will be witnessing, and processing deeper views based on reality of Championship football with a club of our size.

My frustration is with your frustration, because it's a demonstration of a lack of thought.

Sorry Churchill. Extreme analogy but an appeal to your sense of time scales.

Love ya tho x

Dr Jeckyll....
What on earth are you doing?
You cany come on here and give an honest, balanced point of view....
Its just not the done thing!!!!!!!

Callum, whenever someone has a swipe at you, its because you have taken a swipe at their "family".
By that i mean Ipswich and all its environs, we have grown up with this club, some of us for more years that we wish to think about.
And when we hear someone slagging off the team and whether you like it or not RK is part of the Ipswich team, we take it as a personlal slur.

Now, I admit sometimes i do wonder, but in all probability you do love this club as well, however on several occasions you have called RK a c**t, mate, there is just no need for this, when you do this you are always going to make the majoritys blood boil.

To all of Caluums supporters and vthose who agree with him, i maen it when i say your point of view is valid, as is mine and all the pro-Keaners.
But offensive name calling, and a perceived joy of losing, 'cos that will mean Keane will get sacked just upsets me and i am pretty sure most of us on here, not just pro-Keaners.
