Wright Wants New Deal
Wright Wants New Deal
Thursday, 10th Dec 2009 21:54

Full-back David Wright wants to stay at the club beyond the end of his current contract in June. Wright says his family are happy in Suffolk and that he loves the club.

The former Wigan and Crewe man told the club site: "It can play on your mind when you have only got six months left on your contract.

"When it hits you is when you get asked to put down your children's names down for school, things like that. Not knowing my future is a bit scary. Not knowing my kids' future is worse.

"If things don't go as I hope they do, then I'm going to have to uproot the family and try and get them settled somewhere else and the whole process starts again.

"So that's what plays on your mind, but that's another part of the game. You have to get on with it and I can't let it affect me.

"I have to play well, work hard and stay in the team and hopefully that will bring its rewards because I definitely want to stay here. I love the club. I love the area and so do my family."

Wright joined the Blues from Wigan for a fee of around £200,000 in January 2007.

Has he really only been at Ipswich since Jan 2007 ? It must be his consistency that makes it feel longer. Showed the (W)right attitude when out of the squad to get back in. Even if you think we could have a better full-back either side you'd still feel confident that he was the versatile backup on the bench. Surely he's worth another 2 year contract minimum.

Definitely sign him up. He'll play anywhere and get on with it and always do a decent job. Great pro. His time out in the woods shook him and he's been playing very well recently. 100% worth a new contract.

Highly dependable player, definately deserves the reward of a new contract for the effort he puts in. Plus he was the one who popped up with the match-winning goal against Derby for our first win. He's worth it just for that! If only the strikers could do the same... ;-)

David Wright is okay - at best. Let's not carried away - folks on here are talking about him as if he was a world beater... Come on guys - he's okay. He does I would agree handle himself and his business with dignity - unlike some - and just gets on with his job. A model pro? Maybe, and he does show the qualities we need in this respect - particularly under Keane perhaps.

Remember the days when if we spent £200k, we thought this was loads of cash? Happy days.
