Smith Happy to Stay With Brentford Friday, 22nd Jan 2010 10:21 Central defender Tommy Smith says he would be happy to stay on loan with Brentford until the end of the season if he isn’t in Town’s first team. The 19-year-old, who is aiming to seal a place in New Zealand’s World Cup squad for South Africa, joined the Bees for a month earlier in January. Smith said: “I'm just happy to be playing games. If I play well I might get back into the Ipswich first team. But if not, then I'd be happy to stay until the end of the season." This Saturday Brentford face Norwich City at Carrow Road with Smith unsure of the welcome awaiting him: "I've played against them plenty of times at youth and reserve level but never at their place. They're really fierce contests, and the rivalry's massive. "I'm not too sure what kind of reception to expect. I was injured when we played against them last season, so I doubt they'd have even heard of me!" Smith has made one appearance for the Bees so far, the Blues having refused permission for him to play in the FA Cup defeat to Doncaster on Tuesday.
