Murphy Not Keen on Sunderland Return
Murphy Not Keen on Sunderland Return

Loan striker Daryl Murphy says he likes it at Town and doesn’t want to return to Sunderland when his spell is up at the end of the season. The Irishman is enjoying working with Roy Keane at Portman Road.

Murphy says he wasn’t enjoying life at the Stadium of Light, where on the rare occasions he was involved he was used at left midfield: "I didn't feel part of it at all. So moving here to work with Roy again was a no-brainer.

"The fact is I'm a striker. Of course, I'll do a job on the left if I am asked but you'll get more out of me up front and the sooner managers realise that, the better.

"Roy has seen it. I've got five goals - but should have had 14 - since I came here. I like it at the club and don't really want to go back to Sunderland at the end of the season when I know that manager will bring in new players.

"Being out of the Sunderland side had a major affect on my confidence. It got to the stage where I didn't even enjoy training because I was asking, 'what am I training for?'"

Murphy is a big fan of Roy Keane, who he also played under during the Blues boss’s time with the Black Cats: "What I like about Roy is the fact he says straight out the way he wants things done.

"He never goes behind a player's back. I think more of a man who tells you what he thinks rather than someone who may not have you in his plans, but who never comes out and says as much.

"Roy doesn't care if he hurts your feelings with what he has to say. And why should he? We're well paid. We're grown men. He isn't doing it out of spite. He is doing it because he wants you to become a better player.

"As far as I am concerned, if the manager is not telling you off, then he is not doing his job."

The 26-year-old is contracted to the Black Cats until the summer of 2012.

I saw Priskin at Sheff Utd on Sat. In addition to wearing yellow boots, he played like the total waste of space he is. Even Warnock's been fooled into playing him!

Why does everyone keep saying he turned us down because of money? He gets paid the same no matter who he is at, as even if we don't pay his full wages his parent club pays the other half or so. He obviously wanted to stay in the premier league- that didn't work out and he came here for the football. I can't blame him for that, and now that he is here he is showing us where we could have been had we signed him at the beginning of the season rather than Priskin.
