Keane-Mowbray Swap Claim
Keane-Mowbray Swap Claim
Sunday, 28th Mar 2010 10:32

Roy Keane and Tony Mowbray could be about to swap jobs, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. Keane’s position at Town has increasingly become the subject of speculation over the last few days, while Mowbray left his role as Celtic manager on Thursday.

The not entirely convincing report claims that Keane is wanted by the Bhoys and that Town see former skipper and coach Mowbray as his successor.

After Saturday’s game at Swansea, Keane, who played for Celtic in the final days of his career, showed no signs of looking to leave the Blues: "I'm very proud to be manager of Ipswich and, please God, that will continue.”

All this talk about playing attractive football did nothing in our quest to gain promotion through the play offs. With the possible exception of West Ham our opposing teams kicked us off the park in these games.
Roy has identified this and has started to mould a team with a bit more bite about them.
Might not be to everyones taste but given time will turn out to be right.
(And yes i know we beat Barnsley in the 2000 final)

hands up if you expected Plymouth to roll over and gift us the 3 points Tuesday night and then got wound up when your arrogant expectations didn't go to plan. Any town fans who didn't just jump on the bandwagon when we made the premiership will know we have a long and 'glorious' history of dropping points against sides who are struggling, could it be that all our managers have been complete poo, or is there some other reason for this?

Anyone who thinks Mowbray could do a good job here are deluded.
If he can't cut it at a club like Celtic, against teams of pretty poor quality then this is surely failure.
Puts me in mind of Gordan Strachan and Brian Robson...Big names.Great players, but lets face it, not really that good at management, are they?

itfc81 - although I agree it's lazy journalistic nonsense I doubt the Nationals are using quotes from you for their headlines just yet...

To be fare to ITFC81 I did read his post before the paper! but I tend to agree it didn't take a too much thought to come up with such twaddle.

Keano needs to instill a desperation to win every match rather than leaving the squad scared of the repercussions of loosing? Although, it not just Keano who's responsible for that, us the Fans have a Massive part in the players motivation.

3 Wins off the bat to start next season, Healy fit as a butchers dog and scoring goals . . I dream on... but it could happen?

It all depends on what crappy tabloid you read. The one I read was that Celtic are poised to prize Lambert away from Norwich.

Britain doesn't have the worst newspapers in the world for nothing. Quite obviously the journalists have been reading this site and reading some of the posts from our supporters with the lower IQ's of which we have an abundance, and the Keane out brigade of which they are the minority.

Personally wouldn't want Mowbray even if this was true. He has no better pedigree than what Keane had before starting at town. Both got a championship side promoted, once, and had time in the premiership, albeit Keanes much shorter time than Mowbray.

If all the Keane haters on this website would really want a change and a move FORWARD, they would want someone with far better credentials.

As it stands, we are stuck with Keane for the time being.

As for yesterday, I thought we played for a draw, and got one! Any other club in 16th place before a match away from home against a team in 6th before start of play, would settle for a point. Just a shame we have so many draws already otherwise it would have been looked at as a really good point by everyone!

I don't really want RK to go but it's starting to look inevitable. The possibility of a new manager has got a few peoples's imaginations racing. A self fulfilling prophesy perhaps.

However whatever the ultimate outcome the main point that should be iterated is that our performances this season have not been good enough. There are a number of reasons for this. As a team we have not been good enough. The players seem to have the necessary qualities but do not seem to be able to put such qualities into action on the pitch. Two things stand out: Why can we not turn any advantage gained from set piece opportunities into real results? I cannot remember a resulting goal from a corner or a free kick around the penalty area. These always seem to be wasted opportunities. The second thing is our prediliction with playing the narrow game. Playing Carlos Edwards suggests to me that we have an expansive game in mind. But no, poor Carlos seems to be asked to continually come inside to throttle any any ideas of applying any width to stretch the game. I swear I saw Jaime Peters get a b0ll0cking from RK for charging into space on the right when seemingly his prime responsibility was to counter any threat in the attacking sense from the Barnsley left back. These negative ideas do us no service.

Tactically we are inept. The whole thing appears to be falling around our ears. We are served up a diet of huff and puff football on the basis of 'this what what you can expect' . A lot of people are claiming that our defense has been tightened up. Yes, maybe, but this a complete accident. Wright, McCauley and Delaney were Persona non grata in September and O'Connor was not in anybody's thoughts then. I can't credit the manager with this particular masterstroke.

However this may not be the time for dispensing with our Manager. It may actually be the time for standing shoulder to shoulder to tell the world that we are Ipswich and that we are united and that whatever his flaws RK is ours and we love him as our manager. In reality a manager can only do so much. On the other hand !!!

My heart tells me we need to get back playing proper football again and that, with the players we've got, should be enough. If that's under RK, fine. Whether that's under the guidance of Curbs, Mowbray, et al only time will tell.

Here Here Roytheboy. We have come this far in a season that has and would frustrate the most hardened of fans, I see absolutely no sense or reason to give Keane the boot and start from scratch next season (as said taking us all back to square one). ME has shown us all that he is in it for the long haul with the money he has invested so far and if it was success over night which so many other owners demand we would have seen the back of Roy. I for one am enjoying having the nicey nicey shackles removed from Town, it hasn't work for many years now and if progress isn't made you have to ask why and try something new - the same is said for any successful business. I love this club and its proud traditions and we will have the success we deserve with Keane pulling the strings - united we stand, chairman, manager, team and fans!! COYB

tractorboy - a successful business trying something new - well if this is Keanes 'something new' this year it has failed miserably - so we can expect a whole new masterplan next year eh? The guy cannot manage - has not built a strong team of coaches etc - that is quite evident - we are all passionate fans but we can all see that we are lacking so much on the pitch this year
Again I maintain we actually have decent players but the manager and HIS team are not capable of getting performances out of them
So in his annual evaluation where will he score above average and 'exceeded expectations' cos in business that is the measure - going backwards for a year is not progress in my book

BLUEHERTS- SO TRUE! TRACTOR BOY I DO LOVE YOU COMMENT: 'if progress isn't made you have to ask why and try something new'.....YET YOU WANT KEANE TO STAY?! I HAVN'T SEEN ANY PROGRESS HAVE YOU? AND ANOTHER OF YOUR COMMENTS: 'I for one am enjoying having the nicey nicey shackles removed from Town, it hasn't work for many years now'.....THAT JUST PROVES YOUR NOT A REAL FAN, YOU WANT TRADITION TO GO OUT THE WINDOW AND FORGET ABOUT THE GOOD CLUB WE ONCE WERE? WITH A RESPECTABLE MANAGER WHO WOULDNT BULLY PLAYERS AND SAY THEY'RE NOT GOING TO PLAY FOR HIM EVER AGAIN AND HAUL THEM OFF AFTER 23 MINUTES????? RIDICULOUS!

Mr Editor are you scared for copyright reason's to name these so called 'news' papers? Yesterdays 'exclusive' was in the Daily Mirror which sadly does not have the reputation it used to have, and tomorow's 'you read it here first' is reportedly in the Guardian which I'd estimate is read by less than 1000 town fans worldwide.

I hope Roy Keane will be here for a while. God knows how we need some continuity at the club. In the last few years we have drifted and the danger is that we are settling into becoming a mid-table mediocre club and no longer a club that punches above its weight.

maybe we could swap roy for a cadburys creme egg seen as easter is nearly here its just an idea we have done worse things like employing roy keane for 2 years
