Upson Nets First Senior Goal
Upson Nets First Senior Goal
Sunday, 11th Apr 2010 09:16

Midfielder Ed Upson netted the first senior goal of his career for his loan club Barnet on Saturday afternoon. The 20-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, volleyed home in the final moments but couldn’t prevent a 2-1 defeat to Macclesfield.

Upson had come on as a late sub and so far has made one start and three appearances from the bench for the Bees.

Meanwhile, Kevin Lisbie played the full 90 minutes as Colchester beat Swindon 3-0 at home, Colin Healy was in the Falkirk side which beat St Mirren 2-1 and Liam Trotter and Millwall beat Gillingham 4-0.

Tamás Priskin played the full 90 minutes as QPR won 2-0 at Crystal Palace, while Alex Bruce was an unused sub as Leicester won 2-1 at Peterborough having recovered from his recent hernia operation.

Elsewhere, Pim Balkestein missed Brentford’s 3-0 victory over Huddersfield due to a groin injury, while Jon Stead, currently at Coventry, is out of action for the season having undergone cartilage surgery earlier in the week.

Good to see loanees are getting games! It will be interesting to see whether Ed stays, I don't think he will, but whenever I have seen him I have been very impressed with him, suppose it is a big difference to first team and reserve!

as proven by Rhodes, was scoring week in week out in the reserves but couldnt do it in our level and is struggling to atm with Huddersfield, And i would rather keep wickham which was a good choice by Keane

Cracking goal by Upson too. Pity it didn't result in a win though

Luke8644, you're talking crap. Rhodes unproven at first team level? he only played 10 games. Look at the stats:
Rhodes - 10 apps 1 goal
Wickham - 24 apps 2 goals

So Rhodes actually has a better ITFC 1st team record than Wickham doesn't he? and as for him struggling for Huddersfield? 17 goals in his first full pro season is incredible. Yes Wickam is probably the better all round footballer, but Rhodes knows where the net is, which is something that no one else does at our club currently.

Yeah but Wickham is younger than Rhodes so has more potential plus Wickham is more built for the Championship due to his strength, he can shrug off defenders almost double his age! I hope Huddersfield win in the play offs so that we can see Jordan in the Championship next season. Then we can judge him as a Championship striker. Wickham played most of those games at the age of 16. When was the last time you heard a 16 y/o as the clubs second choice striker getting regular games? I liked Rhodes and was lucky enough to watch him play for the reserves and in this seasons preseason games. I thought Wickham and Rhodes worked well together in the preseason but Wickham has a better chance for success and a better shot at getting games. Jordan wouldn't develop that much if he played with us as Wickham would get priority for games. Getting regular games is crucial to a players development and at Huddersfield he can shine. Still I now check out Huddersfield games hoping he will score as I like seeing ex Town players do well.

Luke8644...........well, it was a bit of a silly over-generalised comment.

Rhodes never had much of a chance at the first team....and I didn't realise there was a rule where clubs can only keep ONE promising youth, which you seem to be implying.
There's an air of the tedious blind support for Keane (no matter how bad things get) about your comment. Hope not. I think the battle of the childish Pro-Keane / Anti-Keane tribes is over this season....let's all leave it alone, eh? The only people who came out of it looking mature and intelligent were those who made measured comments according to our position in the league (at least the anti-keane bunch logically criticised things based on results and position).

I'm with Roy Keane on this one.....Selling Rhodes was probably a mistake ;)

Stop talking about Rhodes he's gone now. Would he have done a good job in this division? Possibly, though he does tend to struggle against the better sides in league 1 and so would have probably struggled in the championship.

I'd still rather we hadn't sold him, mind.
