Wickham: I've No Intention of Leaving Town
Wickham: I've No Intention of Leaving Town
Friday, 4th Jun 2010 12:33

Striker Connor Wickham says he has no intention of leaving the Blues, despite intense speculation regarding his future in recent weeks, particularly since he played a starring role as England won the European U17s Championships.

Wickham says leaving Portman Road isn’t even a consideration at this stage of his career: "Ipswich is the only thing on my mind, I've got no intention of moving elsewhere.

"I've got a good head on my shoulders, so it's not going to make me get big-time or anything like that."

The Hereford-born frontman, who admits that seeing claims of a £10 million price tag being placed on his head is “an experience”, says he will be looking to emulate his heroes in the senior national side in the years to come: "In five years time I'll hopefully be playing week-in, week-out and playing for the England senior team in the World Cup.

"But I've just got to keep my feet on the ground and I've got the right people around like my Mum, Dad and little brother. “I'm just grateful I've had the opportunity to play and I've taken it with both hands."

An interview with Wickham can be found on the BBC website here.

Hey great news Connor ! Its about time players made a statement of loyalty toward the Club . all too often players keep quiet and see what turns up from their agents. I love the fact that Connors dad has come in support of the Club, how we have handled his sons progression and that he will honour his contract , and that contract is sufficient financially (what a rereshing change ).

I CANT WAIT to see this 17 yr old lead the line at ITFC and my God does Keane have to get his striker partner, choice correct. Get a decent striker alongside him will help educate Connor as he plays . Bring it on for next season !!

sorry urban for offending you, but i was a bit 3 parts to the wind when i wrote it, and was in a hurry, just trying to put my point across.

but i am rubbish at english and my writing is even worse lol, but give me some maths to do and will blow you away lol.

any how back to buisness totaly agree with posts above, a young lad is by far better staying here and building on his skills than being lost in a big team, just looked what happened to ambrose at newcastle. enough said on that one i think
