Legends to Face Colchester
Legends to Face Colchester

A Town Legends side is taking on Colchester’s stars of the past at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Sunday 17th October.

The likes of Alex Mathie, Russell Osman, Matt Holland, Simon Milton, John Wark and David Johnson will be up against former U’s Mark Kinsella, Martin Grainger, Tony English, Peter Cawley and Paul Abrahams.

Midfielder Simon Milton says he and his team-mates are looking forward to getting back into action: "We have a very active Ex-Players Association here at Ipswich Town and we have recently had Legends matches against Norwich City and Stowmarket Town.

"We are thoroughly looking forward to taking on the Legends from Colchester United on their main pitch and raising funds for both clubs' Youth Development Schemes.

"I will be bringing a strong squad from Suffolk into Essex and know the game will be entertaining and competitive as well as good fun."

The teams will be playing for the Ross Crouch Memorial Trophy, which remembers the former Colchester youth player, whose father Nigel was with Town in the 1970s and whose uncle Steve Foley coached at Portman Road having previously held numerous roles at Colchester.

Tickets go on sale soon and will cost £5 for adults and £1 for concessions.
