Keane: No Loanee This Week
Keane: No Loanee This Week
Thursday, 16th Sep 2010 13:47

Town manager Roy Keane says the Blues are still to land their Premier League loan target but that he hopes the signing will be completed next week.

Keane said: “No luck so far. Nothing’s gone wrong, we always knew it was going to be tough to get the deal done and that’s how it’s proving to be.

“I’m not really involved in the negotiations, the two clubs are and we just need to focus on the players who are available for the weekend.”

Keane is hopeful that his target will arrive at Portman Road next week: “I still think it will happen, but we’re now maybe looking at next week.

“That’s the way it is when you’re negotiating with a club, they might have injury problems and they might want to cover themselves for a couple of weeks, which I understand. Clubs have lots of games and it’s no problem.

“We’re dead relaxed about it, we’d like to get one or two in as I still think we’re short, but I’d rather wait another week to wait for the player I want.”

Keane says defender Darren O’Dea is a big doubt for Saturday’s game against Cardiff due to his knee injury.

Gotta be Colback then. With Cattermole suspended Sunderland clearly need him as cover for the next game or two. He's worth waiting for!

Probably ex-Sunderland, Irish or both perhaps?

Apart from being cover for DN and GL, how is it so great - if we play all 3 of them, then it will be the same rubbish formation as last season?

Can anyone please explain to me the benefits of player loan ? If a club has players on loan who are the best in the positions for the team and the team win promotion the team will suffer as the loanees return to their parent club . This to me is silly as the team loses its heart and standard . If the loanees are that good the parent club will not want to let them go as a permanent deal so why take them to achieve a position which cannot be maintained better to have players come in who will be allowed to move on a permanent basis ! We still need 2 or 3 more players to be able to move forward with confidence that suspensions and injuries do not screw our season ! Good start has to be welcome after last year now to push on and show we are a threat to all !

rgone - How on earth does us acquiring a new player mean we will be playing the "same rubbish formation" as last year,

Are you aware that changing players and changing formation are 2 totally different things? Idiot...

I think he is referring to Joe Mattock from WBA. They have an injury to their cover for Nicky Shorey so it looks like they want to keep Mattock until they can sort something out to provide cover.

Maybe not Colback, but lets wait and see, possibly from a north London club ;-)

Once again Town's ability to actually sign a player moves at a snails pace. In the space of a week QPR sign Rob Hulse, Tommy Smith & Kyle Walker and yet once again we struggle to bring a speedy conclusion to a deal for a single player.

Doubt it's Mattock. He said he wasnt after a left back and we've already got three. A right back would be handy though after Tuesday...

Meekreech... the benefits for taking a loan player are that they can provide cover for injured/suspended players like O Dea has been doing for Delaney and Kennedy obviously until his own injury !
Also if the move doesnt work out we are not left paying a large signing on fee or wages for a number of years for players not even at the club Lisbie ,Martin ,Priskin last year and maybe this .
I agree we do need 2 or 3 players a right back ,passing midfielder the priority in my opinion but as the transfer window is shut how do you envisage this happening without loans ?
And as for thinking about the future or promotion the goal surely is to get promotion and then spend the summer sorting out the team to challenge in the premiership if loan players return to their clubs .Colback was our player of the season but his leaving has hardly affected our heart or standard ?
If we got promotion we would need to replace maybe 5 or 6 of the first team not just one or two loan signings as the majority of promoted sides do .

JUNIORSCHOLES6 - OK, and try and reply without reverting to insults - if you had Norris, Leadbitter & Colback in the starting eleven, how could you do that without dropping Hyam - in which case the midfield would basically be the same as last year?

hucks216: let's hope it isn't a left back... we have plenty. Although we only have Peters at right back there are others who could cover there... where we are VERY short is central midfield... we need at least one more central midfielder as i don't believe healy is good enough cover.

I'm not sure of the maths but soon 'Emergency Loans' will be able to extend into the Xmas & New Year transfer windows - which is clearly an advantage?

Just hope it Jack that's coming back and we stay away from the Baggies ...

If it is Colback coming back will he get suspended all the time? I noticed that once he had been under our charming managers influence last year, he went back to Sunderland and got sent off on his debut. Keane type tackle I hear, nearly crippled his man too.

Don't want this ginger thug back !!!!

I would like Delaney back and a fit Civelli.
When we get Civelli back & playing well, he is a good outlet for the defense to pass to. He also gives us the ability to pass the ball across the pitch and make passes to feet of strikers. Scotland is a good striker if you play his type of game. Quick ball on the ground where he can use his acceleration and power to make space for a shot or a lay off. Wickham & Scotland can work well together if quick ball on the ground is used.
At the moment Townsend doesnt allow us to settle with the ball as he plays a very direct style (which is what is needed at times) but in tight games where we need to keep possession Cevilli will come in to his own.
Edwards on the right has been solid enough so far I think.
Keane has a very solid defense, a good & tough midfield (Norris, Leadbitter & Hyam) and good strikers. We can see a solid spine to the team. We just need that little bit more to link it all together. I think Cevilli can do this for us. I cant wait to see him back!!
