Livermore Joins On Loan
Livermore Joins On Loan
Thursday, 23rd Sep 2010 09:05

Town boss Roy Keane has confirmed that Tottenham midfielder Jake Livermore is joining the Blues on loan, as predicted on last night’s The Naked Football Show. The 20-year-old will provide competition for the likes of Luke Hyam, Grant Leadbitter, David Norris and Colin Healy.

Keane says Livermore, who is expected to be at Portman Road until January having initially signed until November 13th, is someone he’s been targeting for several weeks: “He’s a player I’ve been interested in for a while and with Tottenham getting knocked out of the Carling Cup Harry’s given us permission to speak to the boy.

“He’s a very good player, he has massive potential like Andros and he’ll hopefully come in do well for us. I think we’re short in that area of the club in terms of competition and we’ve got a lot of games coming up. We’re looking forward to working with him."

Livermore, 5ft 11in tall, spent time on loan in the Championship with Derby and Peterborough last season, having previously been on a temporary spell at the MK Dons. The midfielder has made one start, Tuesday’s Carling Cup defeat to Arsenal, and one sub appearance for his parent club. He also played the first 74 minutes of the friendly at Portman Road in August.

Keane says he is continuing to look for further additions: “I’m still after two more players, there are two positions we still need cover but having said that the way the players are performing at the moment they are making it hard in terms of getting players who are better than we’ve already got.

“We’re nowhere near [making further signings]. I’ve had brief conversations with one or two other managers and it’s a case of wait and see.

“There are some good options out there, a lot will have been dictated by the results in the Carling Cup and we’ll see how that pans out over the next few days. I think Jake will be the only player signing today.”

Keane says there were no new injuries suffered during Tuesday’s Carling Cup win at Millwall with Shane O’Connor (hamstring) and Alan Quinn (groin) the only players currently sidelined.

Meanwhile, Town have been linked with Swansea striker Craig Beattie. The 26-year-old Scotland international, who was at Celtic at the same time as Keane, is currently out injured having picked up a thigh problem in training soon after recovering from a calf injury.

Beattie, 26, joined the Swans from West Brom in 2007 and has previously had loan spells with Preston, Crystal Palace and Sheffield United. The Glasgow-born frontman is yet to appear for Swansea this season.

Roy to get his home draw at long last. Town to get Manchester United at Portman Road. It's written in the stars for the Gaffer.

Good signing. Can't understand why some people don't think we need cover in central midfield. After the summer exits, if Leadbitter/Norris get injured suspended, we will have to rely on Colin Healy ....

Agree we need a right back though!

Good signing alot of potential there and he knows Andros Townsend but I'm waiting for the moaners to start saying 'we only sign players from Spurs'.

Jake Livermore looks like a good signing. I suppose it's a pretty obvious bet that Connor's destination will be Spurs, but let's not wish that on him. Much less enthused about Craig Beattie. As someone said on here: "flatters to deceive." Had promise, but has been around long enough now to have made it - and hasn't really lived up to expectations. Still, if he comes, I'll support him and wish him well.

I agree mate, The only thing I can't get my head round is that Swnasea are willing to let him go out on loan to get first team football?? Is this the club for that???
Not being funny but if he gets in infront of JS, CW and TP then surely he should be playing in the first team for the swans.......?
Not saying the guy's not good or anything coz i've not actually seen him play that much but i do feel that he has to be something pretty special to get infront of those three at the minute and i'm sure he wouldn't come here as a bit part player so i don't actually see the logic in this one.....Unless it's a loan deal that Kean has made it clear it could possibly turn into a perminant deal and he will just have to bite the bullet till January and be happy to sit on the bench for us more often than not, Just a thought though
However if it is true then it's another experienced player on the books that could do a job for us......

I agree goodtimes, if he's not in the Swansea first team he surely isn't good enough for us, but as many have said I'll get behind him anyway if he arrives.

I agree with "thecurly" but if it isn't going to be Spurs it will be someone else. It would be totaly the wrong move for Connor to leave at this early stage of his career, If he goes to Spurs he will be in the reserves for at least 2 years. I hope we can hang onto him for at least another 3 Years, It will benefit him more too, And who knows by that time we could be premiership and we could hold onto him.
