Matteo Sereni has said he is coming to Portman Road with hopes of UEFA Cup success with the Blues. it now seems unlikely that Mart Poom will join Town despite yesterday's developments which suggested Derby may be able to do business.

Sereni said: "I go to England in order to have a new experience. My move to Fiorentina was shipwrecked but, above all, Ipswich is a healthy club, a serious club, who finished fifth last season and participates, not without ambitions, in the UEFA Cup. The market for the big clubs is too blocked with foreigners in Italy."

While seeming chuffed with a move to Town he says he will miss Sampdoria: "I am sad to leave Genoa, even in Serie B everything was well, but that is the way things go. Ipswich wanted me at all costs, they watched me and, from Monday, they insisted with Samp in order to have me."

The deal is expected to be completed today.
