Suffolk Constabulary are advising Town supporters that Portman Road will be inaccessible to home fans for a short time after Saturday’s game against Millwall while the away support is escorted out of the ground.

Police say Saturday’s operation, which will involve more than 100 officers, may lead to crowd and traffic congestion and disruption. They advise those not attending the game to avoid town.

Superintendent Ian Sidney, who is overseeing operation, said: “This will be an exciting game for both teams. We hope that people celebrate the match sensibly and in the right spirit.

“We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour, violence, racial chanting, mindless vandalism or any alcohol-fuelled disorder.

“We will continue our use of firm but fair policing to ensure the safety of those attending the game and those members of the public wishing to go about their normal business.”

evansblue added 12:27 - Oct 29 Treat people like animals they will behave like anaimals. Not sure what all the fuss is about as its 2010 not 1980. If you treat fans with respect with sensible policing and allow them to mingle with each other you are less likely to have any problems in my opinion. Barking dogs, horses and lines of police create an unecessary and unpleasant atmosphere for everyone.
