Keane Looking to Add Strikers to Squad
Keane Looking to Add Strikers to Squad
Thursday, 16th Dec 2010 17:44

Boss Roy Keane says he will be looking to add to his striking ranks when the transfer window opens in January. The Town manager feels the Blues have found goals hard to come by throughout his time at Portman Road.

Keane says he’ll have to look at bringing in loan or permanent attacking signings in the new year: “I think I’ve been more than loyal to the strikers. I think Rory Fallon actually did quite well for us last week, a boy just coming in on loan. Jason started and Priskin came off the bench last weekend.

“But we still don’t score enough goals. That’s not necessarily down to your strikers, but it does help if one or two of your strikers are more of a goal threat. When they get the chances they’ve got to take them.

“I watch matches every week and teams get half the chances we get and it’s in the back of the net, whereas we seem to get four or five chances and even then don’t take them. And unless you put the ball in the back of the net, you’re going nowhere.”

The Town manager says he is yet to hold talks regarding the January budget and targets, although chief executive Simon Clegg has already confirmed that funds will be available: "Every window that we have gone into we have invested in the playing squad and I don't see that changing in January.

"If the manager wants to bring in players in January then he will have the opportunity to do that."

Can't we just spend any money we have available in paying this clown off and bringing in a decent manager?

We need a striker that can score! Our highest goalscorer has about 5 goals!

I love all the specualtion about strikers.
If we are signing Fallon permanenetly,- it means we are struggling with players wages.
We are bound to get a lower league striker again.
We have been linked with a few recently. Love to see Le Fondre or Rhodes, but fear its more likely to be a lesser known name (Midson for example). Doesn't ,mean they won't do a good job,-just seems a shame to bring players like that in and have better strikers (lisbie, counago etc) out on loan.
howeveer good are strikers are, won't make any difference without decent service.
i would be happy if we survive releagtion this season and rebuild.
lets hope for a xmas miracle that the teams below us have a shocking run over xmas.

You have strikers and just mess them around Roy,Priskin was doing well and time and time again you drop him and persist in playing the likes of Scotland whose not fit still and gives little effort as for Fallon he couldnt hit a barn door with a banjo.Play what you have we already have far too many loan players here on a holiday

Midson is available in January and we have been linked before. At moment, close geographically (Southend on loan).
Not in great form.
Would prefer others mentioned

Fallon has had a couple of terrible games, but lets give the guy a chance. he can only get better the longer he stays in the team.

There is nothing wrong with taking a lower league striker, clubs are tempted by smaller transfer fees, players expect smaller wages and they can really do the business. But they can take time to adapt to a higher league, such as Pittman at Bristol City, scored for fun at Bournemoth but took a while to find his feet in the championship.

I would love to see LeFondra sign and Rhodes come back but NOT under Roy Keane, dont score in the first few games and they are on the bench or only in the reserves. We need width and creativity in the middle to provide amunition for the strikers, at the moment we could have Torres but with no decent balls in the box he would struggle.

18 goals in 132 games for Plymouth says that Fallon maybe is not the prolific scorer we want. Keane could not see a good striker he fell over one, if you said Adam LeFondre to him he would give you a blank look and say who? Mention a league one striker who hasnt scored all season and he would have been scouting him for the last month.

Agree nw10blue. Can't say I would be over-the-moon with Midson though, the guy has the same scoring potential as Fallon. As for Fallon, only hope Keane sees something we don't. Not overly impressed with what I have seen so far. Feel Lisbie, Counago, Murray, Lavery etc are better so can't see why we need to sign him. in Jan would like to see Wickham go and chopra arrive.
Surely Keane could start pulling some strings from his old contacts from man u and bring someone in from there on loan?
priskin needs to play more often. Scotland and Priskin up front for a while so they can get used to each other.

I still feel Scotland could get goals if Keane played him in the right role and we had wide players putting balls into the box. Unless you are world class strikers they rely on confidence and ours seem to have none, or when someone does look to be gaining Keane drops them next game to ensure they loose it quickly.

Counago and Lisbie can leave happily, Murray needs to go on loan and get a good run scoring goals as he wont prove himself in short bursts as a substitue here. Wickham has so much potential but again the Keane factor stops this at club level, he is so much more confident looking in an England shirt. If we got a good offer its the right move as long as we dont give the money to Keane to sign another Lee Martin. Royle got us good plasyers for buttons, Keanes pays millions and signs s**t

Cant beleive all this talk about new players/strikers to get goals.

PLAY THE RIGHT F*CKING SYSTEM AND WE WILL SCORE GOALS!!

Do Blackpool have class strikers?? NO they do not. prob no better than ours. BUT.... they play the correct system to score goals. Yes they conceed a lot, but they will against prem strikers.

Strikers are NOT always the answer to scoring goals.......

JESUS F*CKING CHRIST, CANT YOU SEE IT MR KEANE SIR?????????????????

Blue em away

agree totally we have players capable of scoring now, play the right tactics and put square pegs in square holes and we will start winning, we do not require anymore players. RK does not know what to do with the one he has already got.

I am feed up with all the uncertainty and have vowed not to post on this site again until RK is on his way. All this debating solves nothing and only adds to the frustration,

If we used Priskin, Scotland and Wickham more efficiently and effectively, there would be no necessity to sign LaFondra, Rhodes, Midson and co. We keep getting linked to strikers who are no better than the ones we have. Service is the key,and we are not getting it at present. Leadbitter,Norris and Edwards lack the ability to create chances, and as per previous posts even Torres would struggle with the lack of service. We seem to spend most games on the backfoot, desperately defending and launching longballs forward whether we are at home or away. We too readily accept that the opposition will dominate possession and we don't have enough experience in defence to cope with the amount of pressure that they put us under.
When was the last time we kept a clean sheet in the league? Or scored 4 goals in a match? If we don't score goals and concede in the comical fashion we do then we are always going to lose and lose badly.
Our players lack belief. Leicesters do not.
I am starting to become increasingly disillusioned and think we are bound for League 1. If you compare our team now, is it stronger than under Magilton? Is Eastman better than David Wright? Is Tommy Smith better than Richard Naylor? Is Rory Fallon better than Jordan Rhodes? Comparisons throughout the team can be made and it seems we have grown steadily weaker and weaker. We were punching above our weight at the start of the season, and we are now at our correct level.
I think we will lose 2-0 against Leicester, but the scoreline will flatter us once again.

If I had a choice,I would resign Jordan Rhodes and stay away from Jack Midson. Keane is bound to sign Midson and play Fallon and Midson together (with Priskin on the sidelines wondering what he has done wrong).
People on this site laughed about Keane signing Fallon. Next up seems to be Midson. He will be cheap I'm sure.

A lot of talk of strikers , no sign of them...
someone with potential from league one!?
or maybe a low premier league striker?
someone to put the ball in the back of the net.
