Clegg: New Manager In the Coming Days
Clegg: New Manager In the Coming Days
Friday, 7th Jan 2011 12:05

Chief executive Simon Clegg says he hopes to appoint Town’s new manager in the coming days. Clegg was speaking at a Portman Road press conference this morning where he confirmed Roy Keane’s exit from the club.

Clegg said: “I hope to be in a position to make an announcement regarding the new manager over the coming days and I can assure you that he will have the support and the resources available to help him to achieve the objectives we have set for this club.

“This morning I have been up at the training ground and have spoken to the coaching staff, to all of the players and separately to the senior professionals. I have also asked coach Charlie McParland to take over as caretaker-manager. I would expect him to be in place as caretaker-manager for as long as necessary until such time as we are able to appoint and announce a new manager.

“Charlie will certainly be responsible for preparing and leading the team for our vital game in the FA Cup against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and if necessary the Arsenal game as well.”

Clegg says the Blues game Keane ample time to succeed but that a line had to be drawn: “In the best traditions of the club, we wanted to give Roy Keane sufficient time to get things right and to improve the situation. However, as he has said himself on a number of occasions, the performances on the pitch since November simply haven’t been good enough.

“Despite investment in the playing staff there was a lack of improvement on the pitch and the results speak to themselves.

“We all carry a degree of responsibility for this failure and I include myself in this, but I am absolutely convinced that with a new manager we will be able to achieve the objectives and goals we have set for the club.

“Ultimately results have to rest on the shoulders of the manager and as Roy has frequently said himself, the table doesn’t lie.

The chief executive, who dismissed claims that the club was in a mess, says Town are still looking upwards despite their current position of 19th: “We have taken the decision to terminate his contract now halfway through the season, we now have a real and meaningful opportunity to improve our position up the Championship table.

“Whilst we recognise we are only three points off the relegation zone, we are looking up towards the play-off zone and not down."

Bobble for manager with Whoppit as his assistant. They are the essence of the positive attitude that is needed to take ITFC forward. Although after getting away with blaming RK for their failings for a few weeks all the "loyal supporters" such as themselves will turn on them and the merry go round will start again.

Well done, you've got what you wanted. Now you will have to live with the consequences

So many clueless comments and clutching at straws

Wait for the announcement

Wait for 3 months

Then start Slating the new man

Get him sacked

Looking forward to the full house of fakes next Wednesday, I hope we slide down to league one so we can clear out the glory hunters who think Ipswich deserve to be in the Premier League, its all so boring now.

This club is years and years away from the Premier League and why do we want to be there. To be humiliated and suddenly have an extra 10000 fans on our books.

Too many people on here have lost the plot, some of the names being touted are just down right ridiculous!!! I saw curbs on the train from London, what a complete waste of finger typing that was, its all drivvle !

This isnt support, the atmosphere created at Portman Road is a joke, we are all as responsible as the owner, manager players, remember that

Clegg, this has come about because of poor and late decisions on your and ME's part. You were even late for the press conference this morning because you were faffing about looking for papers in the boot of your car (thats a fact, I saw you). Get a grip man. Take some advice from people who know about football before you appoint a manager - you're messing with my season ticket money remember. You only have the job because of your connections to the Olympics.

I'm surprised Butcher's not been mentioned more - he seems to be doing a very decent job with Inverness (as he did at Motherwell) and is certianly a Town legend!

They clearly have the next manager lined up, but can't announce it too soon out of respect to Roy.

Why some people think that Hodgson would come from Liverpool to us baffles me. The same with all this Martin O'Neill talk. Some on here are deluded. We are not, and never have been, a big club. When Bobby Robson left we couldn't attract big managers or players so why does anyone think we can now?

Jewell would appear to be the man. Not sure how I feel about that. He does have more experience than Keane, he has played football the right way, but his last job, and the fallout after it hardly look good on his CV.

Butcher??? NOOOOOOOOOO!!! Town legend undoubtably yes, and indeed a boyhood hero of mine but his management track record overall is apalling. Hasn't done too badly in Scotland lately but surely we haven't forgotten his last spell in England, with Brentford? Lasted barely 6 months and they couldn't wait to get rid of him. Then there's Coventry, Sunderland etc. I would seriously rather have Megson than him.

I can't believe people have mentioned Roy Hodgson!!! He's still got the job at Liverpool (for the moment) and even he got sacked, can you really see him dropping down to a Championship team that are in a terrible run of form?

Same goes for Sam Allardyce, can't see him managing at this level again.

I don't know why people always talk about people like Hoddle and Curbishley, Curbishley is linked with nearly every manager's job these days so I never take any of those comments/rumours seriously.

Gary Megson - I really hope not
Gordon Strachan - I hope not

Paul Jewell - pretty much a certainty that he's going to be the man, and whilst he didn't pop into my head before, he's not got a bad record, and everyone was singing his praises when at Bradford and Wigan. There's certainly worse candidates (see above).

Jewell or not Jewell, I hope whoever gets the job gets the full backing from all (or at least the majority) of supporters this time. Lets think positive for a change.

As long as it's NOT Paul Jewel I for one will be a happy bunny.

He's not been out of work for 2 years without good reason.

Martin O'Neil would be great but highly unlikely.

ps. or Allardyce

I would assume 'processing applicants' means cutting a deal with Jewell.

How about Robbie Savage in a player/manager role? Like him or not you can see his commitment. Surely not Paul Jewell, we couldn't afford the interpreter fees could we?

Burley would be good but will not happen.

On the basis that an astute business man such as ME will already have a man in place I would think that Plan B has always been Curbs

Jewell failed to win a single prem game with Derby, only won 7 out of 26 in the Championship, but got Derby to the Semi of the Carling Cup (sounds very fimiliar) out of the game for 2 years

Having said that won promotion on four occasions, and will have money to spend.
It took him three years to build a team and get Wigan up and then kept them there, so if he is the new manager he will need time.

This is going to be very intersting, let hope he still has the magic touch
