No Keane-Style Blast from Jewell Wednesday, 16th Mar 2011 15:59
Right-back Carlos Edwards has revealed that there was no Roy Keane-style rollocking from Paul Jewell after last night’s 3-0 defeat to Watford. The Trinidadian says the new manager took a much calmer approach in the dressing room after the game.
Edwards said: “We were poor and I was shocked how subtle and calm the manager was after the game.
“We were let off easy peasy and if it had been the previous manager the club would need a new dressing room now. As players we have to be relieved that we did not get our heads chewed off.
“The manager still made his point and got his message across, but it boils down to the fact that we are aware that we have to improve as we cannot carry on playing like we did last night. We were miles off the pace and did not look like scoring when balls were placed in the box.”
Edwards admitted that Watford’s two-goal hero Danny Graham was his man at the third minute corner from which the Championship’s top scorer put the Hornets ahead: “I take full responsibility as Danny Graham was the man I was marking, but he was two yards out when he headed the ball and we have a 6’7” keeper in goal.”

I agree with Carlos it's no point having a 6' 7" Goalkeeper who is scared of anything in the air.At his size he should be commanding his 6 yard box and dealing with anything in there.Sunderland must have been rubbing there hand severy time a transfer window came round when Keane was in charge. Never have rated FLAPPER Fulop and NEVER EVER will.

Village_blue : totally agree with you - except we call him flipflapflop fulop. Totally useless at dealing with anything in the air in the 6 yard box and absolutely absymal at judging the flight of the ball - hence his diving to his right yesterday in "one for the camera" style when everyone else in the ground knew the ball was heading into the top tier of the south stand. As as for his kicking - well lets not go there

Shocking is not the word! i personaly will judge Pj when he has assembled his own side (as was stated earlier). for me McAuley Delaney, they are the ONLY 2 i would keep on last nights showing!! (i don't include JB or KD 'cos i don't think they will be here come August) Drury worked his socks off but the step up has been a struggle, but i think he'll get there. I just hope and pray that PJ GETS SOME REAL BACKING IN THE SUMMER, AND NOT JUST HOLLOW PROMISES!!! if he doesn't, well, i will just suspect that the club lacks any real ambition. PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOOUR MOUTH IS MR EVANS!!

Fulop is not the keeper who can command his box, he has the height to outreach any player and get stuck in, he should make the opposition scared of his presence around them. Neil Alexander was a good keeper we did have, but Bergovic was only a loanee. Anyway let us all get behind the team for Sat. and prove we can win at home before that useless international break.!!!

I LIKE PJ's style. I'm so fed up with hearing about the "hair-dryer" treatment, which patently does not work with kids in supermarkets any more than it does with footballers - except perhaps when reserved for very special occasions. I think PJ will make some interesting moves in the summer, but he can't work miracles and he will need financial backing. Give him time.

After the performance on Tuesday, I think we all need a lift [ from the top down ], would like to think that Saturday we'd hammer Scunthorpe. Whether we will or not depends I guess on who turns up on the day, Doctor Jeykell's ITFC or Mr. Hyde's Millionaire Mercenaries. Sorry about negative post, but I'm still low after that last showing. Oh for a win, restore a little faith [ which I know is still lurking there somewhere ! ].

"he was two yards out when he headed the ball and we have a 6'7” keeper in goal" Fair point, but not in public Carlos....

@ reuser90 - PJ will get backing by ME over the summer but you also need to remember that the owner has had his hands burned by the previous two managers. we are probabably one of the top spenders over the last 3-4 years in the championship, although i wouldnt mind knowing whos spent what im sure there some stats out there somewhere.

he is 100% right, it doesn't matter who was marking Graham, it was inside the 6 yard box therefore keepers ball. thats 2 home games in a row, shane long scored readings 1st inside the 6 yard box!! i play in goal, i know and my defenders know if a cross is in the 6 yard box its my ball. fulop is a good shot stopper but on crosses he is very poor.

Well i think we were not that bad in the first half the other night and Watford were a bit fortunate to go in ahead, but second half was dreadfull no movement up front, toothless !! Dyer do we need him ? If you gave me the choice of him for the rest of the season or Kevin Philips i'd have Philips everyday, simply for the fact thaat we still need a couple of wins to be safe and Philips would make thing happen up front, would have him back for next season though no prob as he is quality !!!!

2 yards out and 6' 7'' keeper - says it all. Fulop needs to deal with crosses in a postive way

Drop him his comments are getting more and more stupid and his attitude is completely wrong, Peters deserves a chance he completely outplayed Arshavin last time he played. Also I don't think the Scunthorpe game will be a walk in the park, they will be looking to bounce back after losing 3 nil to Preston.

Carlos, you were a very poor performer in your normal position, not cut out to be a fullback...why does he get ahead of Jaimy Peters? PJ please sort this out. Why do we not start with O'Conner and Peters as attacking fullbacks in home games, our midfield at home has looked woeful, Hyam could do the defensive role better than Leadbitter, allowing Bullard and Dyer to search for goals. But one up front at home is the biggest mistake? PJ you have inherited some RK and JM crap, please sort it out,
