Town Charged By FA
Town Charged By FA
Thursday, 25th Aug 2011 16:49

The FA have charged Town with failing to control their players during last week’s 7-1 defeat at Peterborough.

The club is accused of “failing to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion with respect to surrounding the match officials” during Saturday’s game, in which both Lee Martin and Tommy Smith were sent off, the first time the Blues had ever had two players dismissed in the same game.

Martin’s red card for a tackle on Peterborough full-back Mark Little was debatable, while Smith was clearly well outside the penalty area when he and Posh striker Lee Tomlin collided, despite referee Graham Scott awarding a spotkick.

Town have until 4pm on Tuesday 30th August to respond to the charge.

Is that the best you can think of dizbon? You were outplayed, outclassed and thrashed by Posh, who, to be fair, are probably punching above their weight anyway in this league. I agree the officials were appalling, but were the same for both sides!

14 men against 9 and we get charged?? I'd like to look at these officials' bank accounts....still, it's good knowing we'll finish ahead of Peterborough in the final analysis.

@poshsteve

No one is disputing how utter cr*p Ipswich were playing Posh, that's not the point. This is just about the double standards of FIFA making a show out of nothing and picking on what they think is an easy target.

But no sane person can claim that the referee was equal in his shocking decisions to both sides. 3 offside goals, 1 red card that wasn't and one penalty outside the box? No.

@AbujaBlue

I see your point well enough, Posh have been on the receiving end of their incompetence often enough too, but I`m sure the ref didn`t favour Posh on purpose, its just that Ipswich didn`t have the ball much, two of the goals were close or borderline offside. The `red card that wasn`t` was a two footed lunge, directly in front of us, Little was lucky to come out of it unscathed.

i don't think it should be a lesser charge

Jewell pleads guilty to the lesser charge of failing to organise his players.

They should charge the referee as clearly he was responsible with his inept refereeing display, but the FA are never wrong are they? Are they feck.....

It is well known the tossers at the FA are quite happy to charge us but never charge the big clubs. At least we can argue we had a reason unlike the top clubs who think they are just to big to have any decisions go against them.

Perhaps this is an opportunity. We probably don't stand a chance with the charge but the opportunity is to provide the FA with video evidence as examples of the incompetence of the officials especially the penalty decision. This could perhaps result in a small fine and demotion of the officials.

I don't agree with this surrounding the referee, but Martin was very unlucky and Smith was well outside the area. I guess when decisions like this keep going against you, you will tend to surround the ref. Maybe another good example of why we need a forth/fifth official with a TV to review these things.

The FA cannot charge a referee on his incompetance however his performance will have been monitored by a Referees Assessor who attend every game. If the assessor sees it as we Town fans do the Referee will be admonished in the report.
The Referee will see a copy of this report so lets hope it tells the truth.

@ poshsteve -

I think you'll find that Martins challenge was one footed - right foot, the other foot was under his body as he slid and secondly he got the ball first which was on the ground and his feet werent high at all. It looked far worse in real time, but slow motion video shows it was actually a good challenge. That said though, Posh deserved the win so fair play to them, but ref did make some stonkingly bad decisions.
