Town Turn Down Blackpool Offer for Scotland
Town Turn Down Blackpool Offer for Scotland
Tuesday, 30th Aug 2011 22:33

Town have turned down a £350,000 offer from Blackpool for striker Jason Scotland. TWTD was first to report the Tangerines’ interest in the Trinidad and Tobago international frontman earlier today.

Blackpool appear likely to make further overtures for the 32-year-old, who Coventry, Birmingham and Middlesbrough are also believed to be eyeing, before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Wednesday.

Scotland, who has a year left on his Blues contract having signed from Wigan for £750,000 a year ago, had dropped down the Town pecking order, but scored one and created another after coming on as a sub during Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Leeds. The former Swansea man is currently understood to be back home in Trinidad.

Earlier today, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that he is looking to recruit three more players either before the transfer window shuts or when Football League clubs have the option to sign players on loan in a week’s time when Stoke defender Danny Collins is set to be added to the squad.

West Brom’s Spanish international centre-half Pablo Ibáñez, the subject of a Blues loan offer earlier in the month, is another player that Jewell has said is likely to become available once the transfer window closes and the 30-year-old continues to be linked with a move to Portman Road.

Town are also understood to be interested in a loan move for Tottenham’s England U21 international winger or left-back Danny Rose.

The 21-year-old joined Spurs from Leeds as a youngster for a fee reported to be £1 million and has subsequently spent time on loan at Watford, Peterborough and Bristol City, in addition to making six starts and three substitute appearances for his parent club, scoring his only career goal so far in a 2-1 derby victory over Arsenal.

Elsewhere, Town manager Jewell was spotted at this evening’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie between Colchester United and Barnet at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, which the Bees won 3-1.

In June, the Blues were linked with U’s central defender Magnus Okuonghae, although the Nigerian, who has since been mentioned in connection with a number of Championship clubs, wasn’t involved tonight and would seem an unlikely target given the other centre-halves currently in Town's sights.

Meanwhile, midfielder or striker Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is not expected to miss the match at Blackpool a week on Saturday despite suffering an ankle injury during the weekend's 2-1 victory over Leeds United at Portman Road. The ex-Arsenal man picked up the knock in the incident which led to Leeds defender Aidy White being sent off early in the second half.

New central defender Ibrahima Sonko limped out of training earlier today with a stiff back and hamstring but the problem is similarly not considered too serious.

Town are hopeful that Ívar Ingimarsson (thigh) and Lee Bowyer (hamstring) might be in with a chance of being involved at Bloomfield Road, although neither is yet training with the rest of the squad.

Well can't be that keen to sign Jason with an offer like that!

Blackpool are apparently in for Bogdanovic of Sheffield Utd (who i thought was awesome at Barnsley) so doubt they will bid for Scotland again.

All those on at Ellington - he has been fasting due to Ramadan since the season started, so is going to be off the pace. He will come good!

Jason Scotland was our top scorer last year, I believe if he gets a consistent run in the team then he will get goals, he works hard and has alot to offer. In the past he has had a great scoring record, and if strikers like Kevin Phillips can keep going well into their thirties, why can't scottie??

I would keep Jason. He has a knack of scoring really important goals for us and I feel that he could be brilliant with support from our new midfield.

Good decision. Sell Ellington before Scotland.

He's not going anywhere this window....not if he is thousands of miles away in Trinidad.

Welcome and wise words.... Easy enough for ya??

Got a feeling JS did well on Saturday because of scouts watching. If this is true, I for one am not impressed so you can go for 500k.

If you really want to play for ITFC then do it EVERY time you cross the line. One swallow don't make a summer.

350k?..I'd take that.

I don't want to see Scotland leave. If he'd have been given better service here, he'd have scored a lot more goals. He's looking a lot leaner now, and Saturday's turn round was due in no small way to him coming off the bench. If Chops gets injured, we'll need him!

considering the general form he has been in and his age I think 350k is a reasonable offer! 350k more than what Leadbitter is worth - why hasn't he been benched?

Would be lunacy to let Scotland go - as so many people (who know football) have said - give him the right service and he will score goals in the Championship for fun.

He has proved he can score to a reasonable return with cr#p service - just think of what he could do if he has the service he needs.

Not forgetting he needs to lay off the pies, of course.
