Jewell Undecided on Captain
Jewell Undecided on Captain

Town manager Paul Jewell says he’s not made a decision on who will replace Grant Leadbitter as captain at Burnley tonight with the midfielder set to miss out with a groin injury. The Blues boss believes the captaincy is overstated, having less significance than in other sports such as cricket and rugby.

Jewell said: “It’ll be an honour whoever gets it but football captaincy is less important. When you see Liverpool’s goalkeeper as captain, I think sometimes it’s just a case of giving someone an armband.

“I don’t put too much emphasis on being a captain, you can be a captain without wearing an armband.”

In pre-season, Lee Bowyer skippered the side when Leadbitter wasn’t in the team, while Ívar Ingimarsson was captain at Reading before joining the Blues in the summer.

Big gaz-I asked a question as for sonko for captain , with the shower we'll be feilding tonight it might as well be plus he's more vocal and more has more passion for the badge than the mouse we have at the moment so really why not although personally would rather it was Andrews

Tractamatt - Would agree with you but you did mention rules - why have a captain, the rules don't demand it!

Big gaz: may6th said "it has to go to a non loanee" earlier so I was wondering if it was an F.A. ruling or such, thats why I mentioned rules. As for why have a captain at the moment I honestly dont know if it would make any difference to us who jewell picks.

Many experienced, successful Managers will have a totally different view to Jewell about how important a Captain's role is.
Another one of his weird views and opinions.

Look back through the history of this Club, and it's there for all to see how instrumental good Captains have been to success.

Can't see this man ever getting another job in the game after all this - other than a pundit - even RK does that, amongst other failed Managers.

PJ has it wrong. If we had a skipper of any sorts (over the last two games especially) then maybe he might have rallied the troops into not giving away two consecutive 2-1 advantages. Im sure he may be mis quoted/badly quoted but comments like that are not what the fans need to hear when they are paying to watch five losses on the bounce. Hopefully we can turn it around tonight and a round of applause to those from Ipswich making the journey. COYB !!
