Chopra Wins Award Thursday, 26th Jan 2012 11:30
Town striker Michael Chopra won the Footballer of the Year trophy at the inaugural Asian Football Awards at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Blues frontman faced competition from Zesh Rehman (Kitchee SC - Hong Kong), Anwar Uddin (Barnet), Indy Aujla (RRFC Montegnee - Belgium) and Netan Sansara (Paeek FC - Cyprus).
Meanwhile, manager Paul Jewell has confirmed that midfielder Josh Carson was dropped as a tactical move at Leeds on Saturday to give the Town side more height despite the Northern Irishman having had a decent game the previous week against Blackpool: “He played well and maybe people are scratching their heads, but you have to remember we’re not the biggest team.
“We needed to make sure we were strong from set-pieces against Leeds and I think Murph gives us that edge. I actually thought he was unlucky to have been left out against Blackpool.”
Jewell also says he’s still not given up on the possibility of bringing Keith Andrews back to Portman Road, having spoken to Blackburn manager Steve Kean on Monday with Rovers are still undecided as to whether a fee will be asked for the 31-year-old Irishman. Wigan are believed to be the favourites to sign the former Blues loanee before the window closes.

I hear he's already been on to Cash For Gold to see if he can shift it. Fair play to him, hopefully this will spur him on, although hopefully he wouldn't bet on it! :o)

Can't we use this to quickly sell Chopra to some unsuspecting Asian club with lots of money and no idea?

Well done chops, hope you now score us goals and win it again next year, although you will not score sitting on the bench. As for Josh Carson being dropped for being to small, what a load of cods, JET is tall but useless in the air, also suggest the Manager watches Barcalona they don't have a tall player in there team, and they do o'k.

Point of order - shouldn't this be Sub-continental Football Awards? After all, Park Ji-Sung is Asian, isn't he? Ji Dong-Won? Apologies for the pedantry, I'll get back in my box now...

sLancBlue.... sell Chopra to some unsuspecting Asian club with lots of money and no idea? Chops is already at a club with lots of money and no idea. Why would he want to move?

It was for Asian players born in the U.K. I hope that eases some poorly informed minds out there.

"The Blues frontman faced competition from Zesh Rehman (Kitchee SC - Hong Kong), Anwar Uddin (Barnet), Indy Aujla (RRFC Montegnee - Belgium) and Netan Sansara (Paeek FC - Cyprus" is this some kind of joke?

that doesn't say much for the other 3 billion ... although all the other players sound like they're originated from the sub-continent - so maybe 'asian' is a fairly loose definition of indian! (in which case it doesn't say much for the other one billion) - i can't believe there weren't better japanese or korean players

paul Jewell has now reiterated his previous statement and said that Carson was not tall enough to play in the Leeds match. What a load of crap, surely that is borderline discrimating!!!!!Are we to assume that if a midfielder/winger is over the height of Carson that Carson will not make the squard, again!!!Wise up Jewell you were not the biggest yourself, you should be ashamed to have made that ridiculous statement.
