Jewell: Redknapp is the People's Choice
Jewell: Redknapp is the People's Choice
Thursday, 9th Feb 2012 14:32

Town boss Paul Jewell says “people’s choice" Harry Redknapp would have the respect of the players and the goodwill of the supporters if he is handed the job of England manager. Redknapp is strongly tipped to succeed Fabio Capello, who resigned yesterday with the Town boss having some sympathy with the Italian.

Jewell said: “I think it’s quite unique in football. There’s always a people’s choice and Harry’s definitely the people’s choice, except I’d guess the Tottenham fans.

“He’s the people’s choice and I think he’s also the one that would get the nod from people in football as well.

“Players, managers, coaches and supporters, everyone seems to be behind Harry and the England situation. Certainly he would have the respect of the players and the goodwill of the supporters.”

The Blues boss says he can see why Capello decided to step down after the FA stripped John Terry, who is due to stand trial in July over allegations that he racially abused Anton Ferdinand, of the England captaincy: “You’re always going to be surprised when a manager resigns four months before a tournament, but there were obviously a few rumblings.

“I think the decision [to strip Terry of the captaincy], whether it’s the right one or the wrong one, wasn’t taken by the manager and I can understand Capello’s annoyance at that because at the end of the day he’s the manager. He needed to be consulted I feel, and by the sounds of it that decision was taken away from him.

“He thought they questioned his authority, and I can see that. But I can see the other side of the story. If they felt something needed to be done with John Terry — which I don’t really have a view on as I’m too busy trying to run my own club — it has to be done jointly behind closed doors where they decide what they’re going to do.”

If Harry is smart he should just take the job from end of this season till end of Euros. If he is a flop/gets slated by press and fans, he can just go back to Spurs
If he does well he can get released from his Tottenham contract and stay on as the England boss.

He knows all the players already so no need for him to become England boss just yet.

Poor of the England set up not to involve Capello with the taking away from Terry of the captins arm band, but do they know more than they are saying

As for Capello, did he get paid off by England? he is a smart man and I'm sure he has already got another job lined up.

On John Terry, if the court case had not been put back this would never had happened, who put it that far back? the judge or Terrys legal team? Terry will retire from England, what ever happens, after the Euro's That's why he wanted the hearing put back till after them

while mr redknapp may be the man to replace mr cappello , i think he will think long and hard because of the crap the england boss(whatever nationality) has to take .look at bobby robson,he was the man on the streets choice and had been hounded almost all the way through his time as england boss. i think mr redknapp will think long and hard about taking the job after what he has been through in the past few years.talk about out of the frying pan...!the press seem to think that they have some sort right of set the england boss up for a fall.i personally cant see mr redknapp wanting to take that rubbish. we seem to forget why the f.a. had to appoint an overseas man in the first place.and also redknapps appointment doesn't mean that the problems associated with us not winning the bigger games at tournaments will go away,e.g. tiredness, injuries etc,if we cant get him, hiddink is the obvious choice for me,he wants the job(some sort of nut !)and knows tournament football inside out also saved chelsea a lot of embarrassment in his half season at the bridge and the players wanted him to stay.if we had mouriniho it would be a bad choice, can only see confrontation with fans and f.a.
