Sonko Out for Up to a Month
Sonko Out for Up to a Month
Monday, 13th Feb 2012 13:47

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that central defender Ibrahima Sonko dislocated a rib during Saturday’s abandoned game against Middlesbrough and faces up to a month on the sidelines. The Blues are also set to be without midfielder Lee Bowyer when they take on Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Tuesday night as the veteran is short on match fitness.

Jewell confirmed stand-in skipper Sonko would miss the game at Pompey: “He’s dislocated his rib so it’s probably looking like two to four weeks, I would think. It’s obviously very sore and very tender.

“It’s a blow for us, just as we get momentum going with our centre-halves, they seem to get injured.”

Damien Delaney will come into the side against Portsmouth, who are reportedly could go into administration before Tuesday's game takes place, probably starting on the left with Tommy Smith moving to the right as he did when the Irishman came off the bench on Saturday.

Jewell says Bowyer, who has been out with a groin problem, probably needs a reserve or training game before he can be considered for first team action: “He hasn’t played since the Forest game which was four or five weeks ago.

“We’d like to get him some game time before now and the end of the week, 11-v-11. He’s had a few little twinges but I think he’s fine now.”

Bet Jewell wanted it off as soon as Delaney came on!

The defence should've been sorted weeks ago..I fear we'll start leaking goals again unless a commanding CB is brought in soon.

What a time to be without Ibrahima Sonko, in the 19 games he has played we have picked up 30 points which is not a bad record, in the 9 games with out him 4 points. Unless we sign a new centre half who can play tomorrow night we are going to struggle.

LFCITFC - you just keep typing and proving you know nothing!

I've (personally) played centre half for 20 years and scored over 50 league and cup goals in my career at a fairly good 11 a side level. Scoring is a piece of p*** providing you can kick a ball where you actually want it to go.

Darren Bent has the lowest number of touches of the ball of any player in the premier league, he had one game earlier in the season where he touched the ball 11 times in 90 minutes and one of those was a goal - I can bet you that his defenders had to do 10 times the work he did.

Put your xbox controller down, switch off Fifa and get your boots on. Unless you're actually Fernando Torres, in which case scoring is the hardest thing in the world to do.

Best examples of how being a striker is not the hardest thing to do in Football? Priskin and Counago were not centre halves!

Smith and Delaney are clowns, I really hate to moan, but those two are useless together. Let's hope we can out score them, Come on Boys!!!

Fear not! I am available!
I can play football (sort of), I am right footed, I am fit (I had my haemorrhoids done on Friday) and 47 years old which puts me in Mr Jewell's preferred age range. I am waiting by the telephone.

We are not going to get any c/halfs in before the Pompy game so give these two a chance PLEASE. Slate them after the game if they play badly.

After all we are all Ipswich fans on this site ????

I have come to the conclusion that jas0999 is the most tedious person on the planet.
Although to be fair, the CB situation should have been sorted a long time ago. It just doesn't need to be said in such a boring predictable tedious way. You must be great fun for going out to have a drink with.

Must get someone to play alongside Smith- A right-footed centreback.
Delaney isn't up to it, and poor Smith gets forced into an awkward position.

We're doomed!! I will be amazed if less than 3 go past our goalie!! N that isn't including at least one from David Norris!
