Edwards Skippers Town at Pompey
Edwards Skippers Town at Pompey
Tuesday, 14th Feb 2012 18:58

Carlos Edwards skippers Town for the first time as Paul Jewell names the expected side for tonight’s game at Portsmouth. Damien Delaney replacing the injured Ibrahima Sonko is the only change from the team which started the victories over West Ham and Coventry and the abandoned game against Middlesbrough at the weekend.

Jack Ainsley comes on to a bench which is otherwise unchanged. Josh Carson and Ryan Stevenson travelled but aren’t involved.

Portsmouth are unchanged from the side which drew 1-1 at Blackpool at the weekend with all three January Town targets starting. Full match preview here.

Town: Lee-Barrett, Edwards (C), Delaney, Smith, Cresswell, Drury, Hyam, Martin, Emmanuel-Thomas, Murphy, Chopra. Subs: McCarthy, Ainsley, Leadbitter, Bullard, Scotland.

Portsmouth: Henderson, Halford, Pearce, Rocha, Ben-Haim, Ward, Lawrence (C), Mullins, Etuhu, Huseklepp, Futacs. Subs: Ashdown, Mokoena, Benjani, Webster, Kitson.

Does Carlos have a contract?

Does PJ take the captaincy seriously (as it should) ?

Odd making a player captain when his current deal is due to expire soon and no doubt in discussions with other clubs. Why did we sign the Hearts guy? Not needed. We desperately wanted a CB. Odd. Carson - he really must have annoyed PJ - a so called arm round the shoulder manager (clearly not!).

Anyway, good luck to the players tonight. I still think we will win. Should do anyway.

Drury or Martin would have made better capts!

Is Edwards the right man to DRIVE the team on ?

@RAH4 - as long as he keeps MOTORING on in a ROUDABOUT way, then AUDI be the captain, FORD a seeable future. As long as he INDICATES he wants to stay then ... oh you get the puns, I give up.

Jewellinthetown you need shooting for that !! but don't worry would only half (50%) kill you .....company policy you know.

blue979.. yes carlos is a good player in midfield, but sadly not a good right back and jas makes a fair point here, how focused is he going to be on ipswich if he is speaking to other clubs... coyb

my feeling is, captainacy is overrated. You need all 11 players to be vocal not just one.

Carlos certainly drives fast enough!

Three wins in a row, two of them away. Obviously don't want to get carried away, but could we altogether rule out a late surge for the playoffs?
