Wednesday Targeting Bennett
Wednesday Targeting Bennett
Thursday, 19th Apr 2012 11:25

Sheffield Wednesday are amongst the League One clubs to have approached Town youngster Callum Bennett, TWTD understands.

Second-year scholar Bennett has turned down a one-year contract with the Blues with manager Paul Jewell revealing that the former Kesgrave High School pupil was interesting a number of clubs in League One.

Colchester United aren’t one of them, however, with boss John Ward insisting that his club hasn’t made a move for the right-back or midfielder: “We haven’t approached anyone about Callum Bennett.”

JAS, let me know what you mean by "the treatment of Carson"?
Leave him out?

Its not bad treatment to drop a player who doesnt perform, when others clearly do.
Id like to see Josh, but Murphy hasnt done much do get dropped either remember.

TWTD reaches a new low as a member thinks it would be bizzare for a player to want to play with his brother at a nearby club!

I've seen Callum play many times and this guy is a real talent. In fact am i right in saying he has been the only U18 player this year to be offered a professional contract?
The fact that he is looking elsewhere after being offered a such a contract says more about our approach to the up coming youth team than Callum's decision.

Sindre you have no idea what you're talking about! A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

What now? If money is the deciding thing but for an 18year old then let it be. I would ofcourse love to see him stay and we dont know if he will. saying i have no idea what im talking of though is very disrespectful and id like u to drop those comments. Money should not mean much to such a player, i hope there are other reasons for him possibly wanting to go...

The issue here is the manager and the management team a bunch of muppets who now will pretend they are promoting youth by throwing someone into the limelight who is nowhere near ready for it just so they look like the 'good guys' pathetic . This lad will be in a long line of many the only way to get people to stay is to dump fool jewell and if osman can get his out of his backside long enough send him with him

itfc1981 - Look at a picture of the Bennett that plays for Norwich. Then look at the picture of this Bennett. Then back again. Now if you can't see why that was bizarre then just wow.

Sindre .The reasons for turning down a contract aren't always related to money so i think to suggest that this is the reason for him going and just say 'let him go' without knowing the full facts for his decision is unfair on the player.Contract length, opportunities for first team football and club support would i'm sure have been all taken into consideration.
Surely we should be trying to keep and develop our best young players and not making it easy for them to walk for whatever the reasons.
ITFC fans have always loved to see local players come through the youth set up and in years gone by we have produced some excellent players who will long be town legends. Is this likely to happen again with the current set up and should as fans we say just let them go without knowing the full facts behind the decision?
This lad is a local and has come through the academy, has huge potential and is a right back and defender!!
You make many valid and positive comments but in this instance i disagree with your sentiments which i consider to be unfair on a young player with huge potential talent. That's all.

Will people stop living in the past ,those days are gone and will not return . Football is a business ,the lad has been offered a contract by the professionals that run the club for the value they think he is worth ,he has chosen to take an offer elsewhere so good luck to him .
I would rate the views of the management team who have been in football for years and seen these youngsters train and play more than personally bitter supporters on here . We have academy players in the first team squad who were good enough ,and talk of others being given their chance that the club rates .

How many teams recently promoted have done it with a team or even half a team of their academy players ? We cannot fill the team with youth or we will achieve nothing .
