Klug: Greatest Satisfaction Seeing Youngsters Come Through
Klug: Greatest Satisfaction Seeing Youngsters Come Through

Bryan Klug says seeing young players come through from the academy is what gives him the greatest satisfaction in football. Klug, who began his new job as academy director yesterday, says he enjoyed some aspects of working in first team football as Jim Magilton’s assistant but others less so.

Klug said: “The biggest satisfaction comes from seeing a player come through, there’s absolutely nothing better.

“When you’re working with the first team, the result is all important, obviously. It’s a great high if you win, then you worry about the next game. If you’ve lost, you know you’ve sent 20,000 people home unhappy. It’s too low.

“With youth, you can plan. You can see people like Kieron Dyer arrive here with his boots in a plastic bag and you finish up watching him play at Wembley for England. You can’t put a price on that, that is the ultimate for a coach.

“Working with the first team was rewarding in its own way. But the pressure there is immense and that’s why they get paid the big bucks.

“The bit that was done out on the training field and with the players was great,” he added. “It was just the games got in the way!”
