Players Continue Summer Preparations for New Season
Players Continue Summer Preparations for New Season
Friday, 22nd Jun 2012 15:04

Town keeper Arran Lee-Barrett was back at Playford Road today for some early pre-season training with the start of the Blues’ preparations for 2012/13 proper now less than two weeks away. The Town players are due back at the club on July 5th.

Lee-Barrett, currently the Blues’ only professional keeper, was joined on a run by released defender Ibrahima Sonko, who we understand was recently in the US as he searches for a new club but also has options in the UK.

One-time Town academy trainee Lee-Barrett tweeted: “Bumped into a few people at the training ground today. Sonks joined me on my run, had a chat with [returning academy chief] Bryan Klug.”

The club has given the players fitness programmes for the summer with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas amongst those who have been periodically working on their fitness at Playford Road since the end of May.

Striker Michael Chopra is spending time at a health camp in California as part of his preparations for 2012/13, while we understand manager Paul Jewell is also currently in the States on a short break.

New full-back Elliott Hewitt is set to continue his rehabilitation from the hip surgery he underwent while with Macclesfield at Playford Road having recently been at Lilleshall.

We expect French midfielder Cheick Kourouma to have signed on the dotted line by the time the squad reassembles on July 5th having recently agreed terms, while Jason Scotland, who is currently in Trinidad, is similarly expected to put pen to paper on a new deal.

So what your saying is the below is always coincidence.

1) Player heavilly linked with ITFC, normally on here and Star 1st.

2) Speculation mounts that signing could be immenent.

3) Other clubs then linked to player but cited Town still in the running.

4) Rumoured player shown around ground and training as well as general area and was impressed wiht "premiership facilities".

5) Player then rumoured to have talked to other clubs and signing to ipswich unlikely.

6) Player ends up signing for palace, Brighton, Whitton Utd rather than town.

PS Try telling 2 boys under the age of 10 that!! Doesnt help when all his mates at school have them.

Oh look....The germans are back in the lead

Do people seriously believe Jewell, his coaching staff and Clegg have not got things in hand?

Ffs just because the local Archant owned "local" rag are not privy to the goings on at ITFC,and feel the need to print dross article after dross article about what they perceive to be the implosion at Portman Road - how they'd wish! Doesn't mean Town fans have to accept what THEY say as gospal. Get a bloody grip u lot and trust OUR Club to do what is required. There are TWO months before the season even starts and we WILL be signing the players required.

Btw Scum haven't signed a player yet, and acyually stand to lose their 2 most influencial players ( Holt and Ruddy) , yet there is no panic , demoralising shyte articles in the Edp I noticen no slagging off the board, the owner, no ridicule about. Scum FC! Odd that don't you think! But maybe that's because Archant don't tend to want to winde up norwich fans like they happily and successfully do every day in the EADT to Town fans!

Wise up you lot and trust in Jewell and ITFC.

Players go to clubs who pay the most or offer them a long contract when they are over the hill. Whilst we have missed out on Kuscak (who is a good goalie with a decent defence in front of him) it is not the end of the world.

Progbryneak (or however you spell it) has snubbed Fulham to go to...... Reading. I wonder why. Nothing to do with four year deal and loads of cash. Poor fulham. Fulham resuce the player and that is the thanks.

Plenty of time. I am off for a break (toilet) and do not expect two signings before i come back (unlike some). I do expect another Geerman goal.

There is still plenty of time to sign the RIGHT players. TBH it's gone a little quiet on all fronts with ITFC. I do expect alot of activity in the next 2-3 weeks. I do agree with JAS0999 PJ has to get it right this summer no excuses for failure. We need a GK like many other positions, but a GK and 2 Cb is critical. I'm looking forward to the new season as always, fresh start, new kit, sun tan,??? Oh Sun tan I think we might need are umbrella come August but let's hope not.

Blimey ArnieM take a chill pill.

I dont give a toss what the hell is going on at Norwich, I only concentrate on my club.

And I'm not trying to have a go at the club in particular pj who I think has done a decent job, I just want us to be sucessfull and the current way its gone hasnt worked but thats no reflection on him in my view.

Well said, spot on.

Talbs77

It's not always coincidence, but is is always media (mostly local) speculation. If the media don't have a story they will make one up.

PS I'm sure there are many other boys at your lads' school that don't have a new Town shirt every year. Be a man and tell them they can't have new ones each year as it's a cunning plan by the club to make lots of money using peer pressure.

Ooops the German's have won and England will have to beat them on penalties in the semi-final. Is that a pig I see flying overhead?

Talbs77 - ignore it - and with any luck it will go away ...............

ITFC will eventually end up with around 7000 of this kind of Supporter, week in, week out, come what may - and that is seriously concerning.

Thankfully some of us expect more - otherwise the lower levels are where this Club will duly rest in peace. What's going on (or lack of it) is NO JOKE.

I know I'm getting pelters here, and I can assure you I want this club to be sucessful hence me trying to have a discussion to figure out whats going wrong so it can be put right.

If you think things are going ok, I think they are on the managerial front.

PJ has already brought in the type of signings who in the past have helped the club do well namely, young, hungry players for a snip. Indeed our best player last year was such a signing.

My point is the actual managing of the football club by Clegg which, at first glance, is not convincing me he's doing a good job.

In my opinion there is somthing wrong when we let our biggest assets, the players, leave for nothing when we have spent millions to bring them in. We have also, in the last couple of years, struggled to get players we have been linked to. I know speculation sells papers but it seems to be the same scenario (as I pointed out above) every time we are trying to make a reasonably big signing.

BTW Afromcol, I love the fact my 2 boys seem to be into ITFC as their old man and indeed encourage it, however I cant afford to buy 4 new shirts for 2 boys every year, its not about manning up as you put it, saying no, I dont want to say no but I think its immoral the club know this and put pressure on a particular group (parents) at a time when monies tight.

Don't panic - think we'll see movement this week. Hopefully Chambers, Richie and Guzan??

Agree about the shirts though - complete overkill and think it'll backfire as few will bother with the away shirt. I've always liked the alternation each year.

Poor ALB can not do right for doing wrong. He comes in early he is creaping to get the number 1 jersey, FFS that is what he should be doing, so I say good on you lad.

As for any players coming to Ipswich, lets hope they don't read these comments of the so called supporters slagging off every play we have, If I was a potential newbie I would turn around and sign for a team with better supporters.

SO WIND YOUR NECKS IN AND GET BEHIND THE TEAM.

I just heard from a fairly odd yet reliable source (ie football manager programmer) that we are currently in the process of signing Loach.

peteswindon....well said, the problem is the so called supporters you refer too "WONT LISTEN" as they think in their deluded way, its the way to support the team. Being negative about every story only promotes negativity, it cant have any other effect.

I will admit, news coming out of portman road has been slow. We have made three signings, all "POSITIVE" and forward looking signings( Hewitt,Cheick and Klug). The Klug signing in particular for me the most exciting.

As a wise person once said to me, " no news,is good news". This time last year we were signing the likes of Ellington, Boywer And Ingimarson so i think lets see who we sign and see how it goes B4 we moan....coyb

I agree it is frustrating at not being able to sign the players that we are after but, cant get to worried yet, still plenty of time.

Do need at least two cb and i may get abuse for saying it but alb is not a no.1 gk we must sign good gk who can save us a couple of points a season not cost us. alb makes to many mistakes for me.

Saw PJ in Iceland, he was buying a 50 piece BBQ Family Feast Pack and big bag of American Style Chicken Drumsticks. Probably hungry.

bigolconnor added 09:07 - Jun 23
we are going to sign loach!

obviously that wont happen until PJ and Clegg return, but it will happen. Then we just need a centre back and we are up and running. Chopra fit and ready from America, Jet primed and ready. Smith hitting the ground running after all his international work. Cresswell with a full season under his belt. Jimmy needing to prove himself. i think we might be ok if no-one gets injured.

Nothing personal. We are agreed that we want the team to do well.

Agreed that clubs use peer pressure on kids to buy shirts and they are a rip-off at the prices charged. Club might do better to charge a more realistic price (still plenty of profit in the sale) sell more and have more colour on the terraces.

It's all very well going on about whether ALB is good enough or not but none of the keepers we have had in the past three years has had a decent defence in front of him. Stockdale was in the international squad but how many clean sheets did he have.

WorcesterBlue added 11:28 - Jun 23
If it is Loach then ok - we'll have two reasonable keepers both committed to Town and open to improvement. As to no news is good news that is true on occasions but there comes a point when people inevitably get twitchy. However I hear Chambers is signing soon so if that and the Loach rumours are true we should all be a lot more content by the end of the week.

Good effort ALB! Hopefully all have been taking there Summer programmes seriously, such as JET, Martin, Chopra and Bullard...they could make a real difference if they continue the form from Jan onwards (with a hungry and fit Bullard to add to that)..New signings should start arriving in the next 2-3 weeks. COYB!!

Clearly getting the "spine" of our team right is a "critical" part of our future success and needs to be carefully orchestrated. If there is any money available then it should be reserved for this. I wouldn't though be looking all for hungry young players here, we need a bit of leadership. Has anybody picked up on what Danny Collins is doing? I haven't heard if West Ham are likely to offer him anything or whether the family issues of being South of the midlands will persist, but I would still like to see us push the boat out to try and bring him here if at all possible.

However, PJ revealed last year about the over ambitious signings he was looking at in the CD department hence failing to secure adequate cover here. I agree we shouldn't be panicking and that the wages will be forced down as the summer progresses and we shouldnt be paying over the odds, but if there are a couple of players who really will make the difference the we have to bite the bullet to get them and then look at hungry youngsters to fill the other gaps.

Having said don't panic I do feel this summer the Olympics will be a big distraction for both ME (as it will be a big money spinner for him) and Clegg (who is intrinsically wed to the Olympic movement) and this could cause issues for us when we should be signing players.

What chances of Tommy Smith getting an injury that may keep him out at the start of the season? The extra competitiveness of a major tournament versus warm up games in pre-season does I suggest present a bigger risk of this alongside all his recent travelling and the potential for burn out.

There will also be the issue of trying to put together a regular under 21 team as part of the new structure aligned to grade 2 academy. So I think we need several more bodies on board and this is partly why the academy will drain some of the finance directly available for direct first team players so we have a larger number of younger players at the club and not just the extra physical costs of running the academy and providing top class academy facilities.

Panicking NO - but very concerned at the very little visible progress of rebuilding our club for a more successful 2012/13 campaign.

My other concern is if we do get off to a poor start then the problems spiral, confidence goes etc. and we get drawn into a relegation fight again. The season before last Doncaster Rovers were described by some as the best footballing team in the Division and their manager at the time was being predicted as hot property!!! On paper last year Forest had a strong side and a experienced manager whoi had one trophies in Holland and managed the england side. The only just managed to swim out of the whirlpool at the bottom and for 75% of the season noone would have betted against their survival.

It is therefore, conceivable that a top six side last year could get relegated this year just look at Preston who had a spell courting with the play-offs, and Forest as we have just mentioned.

This is a tough league and at the moment we have some good players but the difference between potential top six and bottom four is not that great.

Why are people panicking? The transfer window doesnt even officially open till July 1st, paul jewell obviously has a list of targetsand as most of you bring up he panic bought last summer im suprised you're all moaning! The one player we have officially approached and/or put a bid in for was Elliot Hewitt, and we got him! Everyone just relax, enjoy the rest of the euros then we can focus on getting in some players!
