Jewell: Loach Was Target Last Year
Jewell: Loach Was Target Last Year
Thursday, 19th Jul 2012 17:23

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed he tried to sign new addition Scott Loach when he first joined the Blues in January 2011. The 24-year-old joined Town on a three-year deal with an option for a fourth season earlier today after the clubs agreed a £150,000 fee.

Jewell said: "I have followed Scott's career for a while now and we're obviously delighted to have him here at Ipswich Town.

"I actually tried to buy him when I first took over here but Watford were looking for a fee in the millions and we didn't take it any further.

"We have been monitoring his situation during the summer and we feel we have signed a very good keeper in what is a good deal for the club. I know he's a boyhood Ipswich fan as well so I'm sure our supporters will take to him."

My source has told me we are close too signing Sam Baldock on a season long loan would be a excellent signing hopefully no 24 recall option

Great signing.

Why the low fee? Because Watford are still embarrassed they took £ 2 million off us for that lazy git Priskin?...........

Ha ha good point big gaz 67, we have got a bargain here in payback for getting rinsed over Priskin!

But heres hoping Loach is a more sucessful signing than Priskin which I'm sure he will be.

I think things are coming together, much more positive signings this pre season.

Dozzell, good point where's Walbersick? He kind of went all funny, started getting all positive on us then disappeared.

Watford mugged us off this the signing of Priskin, let's hope that it's the other way round this time and Loach ends up looking like he should have been the £1.75m man. I wasn't convinced on Loach at first but I'm warming to the idea of having him here and am confident that he'll turn out top class for us.

Good signing. Re length of contract Scott's agreed, either means he's been told Kello isn't coming so no1 jersey is his, or he is willing to fight fight for his place regardless. Either way well done ME, PJ and SC (presumably involved?). With Klug, Chambers, Hewitt and hopefully the young guy we're waiting overseas clearance for, this is turning into a good close season's business.

For all those Clegg fans and boo boys - interesting to note:
"I actually tried to buy him when I first took over here but Watford were looking for a fee in the millions and we didn't take it any further" - we now sign him for £150k...
I seem to remember a similar situation with a certain Mr Chopra! Whether intentional or not - we have ended up with two signing that we wanted (albeit a year later on both counts) but probably have an extra £2-3m in the bank! Its one of the reasons I think some people should get off Clegg's back - sometimes!
