In addition to their interest in Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu, Scottish reports are linking the Blues with another player north of the border, Dundee United winger Gary Mackay-Steven. Town are understood to have made an approach for 26-year-old US international Edu, who is set to leave the several times demoted Scottish Division Three club this summer.

Mackay-Steven, 21, is reported to be interesting the Blues, but Terrors boss Peter Houston recently said that the midfelder, who is contracted until 2015, and his side’s other promising young players would cost big fees if they were to move on: “The guys will not go unless there's silly money put on the table because these boys are playing as good as anything in Scotland.

"Gary Mackay-Steven is learning the game still, he's done really well. He used to hug the touchline. Now he's drifting in the park and getting on the ball, but that's hard work on the training ground that's taught him that.”

Town are highly unlikely to be paying "silly money" for anyone this summer with manager Paul Jewell having repeatedly said that money is tight.

Mackay-Steven, who played youth football with Ross County and Liverpool, has won three Scottish U21 caps, scoring one goal.

After leaving Liverpool’s academy, the 5ft 9in tall Thurso-born wideman trained with Fulham, before joining Airdrie in January 2011, impressing enough to gain a deal with Dundee United that summer.

Speaking earlier this afternoon, Blues boss Paul Jewell didn’t dismiss reports of Town interest in Edu with the club understood to have made an approach regarding the Californian moving to Portman Road.

Last week, the Blues were linked with a third Scotland-based player, Celtic centre-half Kelvin Wilson, who is believed to have been the subject of one of the bids Jewell revealed had been turned down after the Colchester match.

Sounds good but I m worried how many midswe are investing in when we have enough decent mods already unless he is a Bullard replacement wich would be very good though!!! Hope we get him just to add a little depth to team but only if he's reasonably priced COYB!!

again no point in having wingers if we have nobody up front that scores headers.
i am sure the club are hard at work to rectify this tho.

Wouldlove to see Wilson, Edu and Mackay-Steven?! All three sound impressive but do we really have the money to bring all of them here? Can't see us being able to bring all of them here, but then again it may just be speculation.

Mackay-Steven would be an excellent signing for us very fast skillful and direct...United won't let him go cheap tho having lost quality players over the last year Conway Robertson Bauben etc would think at least £750,000

I think Edu and Mackay-Steven would be two excellent additions to the squad, just a bigger striker and another CB would complete us

This would be a good signing, saw him last weekend, albeit against a poor Hibs side, and he looked a threat every time going forward and bagged a goal too. Edu in the centre would also be a good replacement for Jimmy if he goes

Both would be good signings, but let's be honest they ain't going to happen unless mr Evans digs a little deeper in his pockets, unfortunately cannot see it,not being negative just a realist!

Need another striker instead of relying on just Chops! Scotland will surely pick up an injury in the course of the season and Ellington can only score against Sudbury.

YES! GET HIM IN PJ!!! I actually put on here a few months ago that if we look to Scotland he would be the one player we definitely need to consider. At 21 he was tearing up the SPL last season and, although its the SPL, he looks like a he could be a real player. Would be extremely happy if we got him in, but can't see him being any cheaper than Alan Judge or Paul Gallacher (both of whom I wouldn't be adverse to seeing in a town shirt by the way)

Just did a spot of "scouting", have to say he looks like he's got real quality. Quick, skilful, very two footed and he looks like he can cross. If he's going to cost the same or less than Davies, I know which one I'd take. I don't think we need a big man. You can play football and get out of the championship, Swansea are proof of that. We are definitely very light up front, but beyond Carson do we even have anyone who plays left?

Stevenson is rubbish the only decent signing is a loan and Klug brought him here surely Stevenson has showed that scottish players are just not good enough

@Bluey123 Completely agree Stevenson is average at best, just another leadboots.

We wont get him. Im too negative to believe we will get someone like him! haha.
Stevenson is GOOD at best, not average. No regular in our team imo but a good squad player for suer
