Redknapp Rumours Reach Tabloids as Leeds and Wolves Linked With Hyam
Sunday, 2nd Sep 2012 10:49

Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is claimed to be Paul Jewell’s successor if all fails to go to plan at Town this season by one of this morning’s tabloids. Meanwhile, Wolves and Leeds are linked with Luke Hyam.

Redknapp is known to be friends with Blues owner Marcus Evans and rumours that he might be a potential future Town boss have been circulating locally since the two of them were shown playing golf together at the Sir Bobby Robson Classic in Portugal over the summer.

The ex-Spurs manager is understood to have been involved in the process of putting together the short-list of candidates for the Town job when Roy Keane was sacked, while Charlie Woods, who worked with Redknapp at White Hart Lane as well as with Robson at a number of clubs, is also amongst Evans’s confidantes.

Evans, however, is also understood to have a good relationship with current boss Jewell, whose terms are up at the end of the season, and has had a history of giving his managers time. Having given the Liverpudlian not insignificant money to spend in the last week for Peterborough striker Paul Taylor, unless the season goes very badly wrong, a change seems unlikely in the short-term.

Other newspapers link Redknapp with potential returns to Southampton and West Ham and also the QPR job this morning should their current incumbents fail to cut the mustard in the Premier League and it would seem far more likely that the 65-year-old would be after another position in the top flight.

Elsewhere, Town are claimed to be struggling to keep hold of midfielder Luke Hyam, who is said to be on £650-a-week, the lowest wage in the Blues first team squad. Speaking last week, Jewell said he will be offering the 20-year-old, whose current deal is up at the end of the season, a new contract, but Wolves and Leeds are said to be interested.

Hyam was given his current terms last season with manager Jewell keen to keep young players hungry and not give them too much too soon, but reward them with longer and more lucrative contracts as they progress.

Jon 456 - certainly highlights the crazy situation where Jewell persisted with useless Leadbitter when we knew he was crap. We don't want Redknapp or his dog within miles of here - we've had enough dodgy characters over the past few years, Thatcher , Keane , Bowyer etc. let's keep our feet on the ground

....... much more chance of Rarry Hedknapp ......... coming here me thinks.

Unfortunately Jewell has his favourites, and it's obvious, it appears that Hyam will always have to do more than should be expected of him at his age, to even come into Jewell's reckoning. In other words having to play so well he CANNOT be ignored.
That's sad and unfair because he is a very talented youngster, and needs to be playing for someone who appreciates that.

Its clear that Jewell just doesn't fancy Hyam and for all the praise he has heaped on Loungo he has done little to encourage Luke who must wonder what he has got to do to get a run in the team. Ir we are supposedly trying to build for the future why hasn't Luke been put on a 3-4 year contract. I thought that against Blackburn he looked a better propspect that Luongo (who by all accounts has a big future in the game). As I never wanted Jewell here in the first place I'd love to see Redknapp at PR but in the real world we should be trying to spot the next bright young manager coming through the ranks and with our limited budget it might help if they've had a season or two in div 1.

I hope it is speculation, I just do not understand why he was dropped from this game if fit. why is a loan signing ahead of him (as neither central mids were defensive). To be honest we have four central midfielders of a decent standard and we should utilise them all over the season but we need to nail his contract down NOW, but as stated earlier it should be Drury and Luongo who should interchange and Hyam and N'Daw. Surely Hyam would rather play for his home town club, but is it a question that our home town club does not want him as much as we do. Shame.

£650 a week? I would be looking at my options with different clubs if I was luke. Surely he's worth more than that.

I read in another tabloid Redknapp wants a top job in England, then again Pardew was mates with Mike Ashley and he got the Newcastle job but that was a step up for Pardew and not a step down. All a bit too fantasy and to good to be true, besides PJ is our manager wether fans like it or not and whilst he is, you have to try and support him.

thought we missed Hyam yesterday , he seemed to have a good understanding with Luongo when they both played . I happen to think Hyam is a real star of the future .

FFS PJ get him signed up to a decent contract , he will be here longer than you

As for ' Arry , can't see it , he would want a big transfer kitty to even be tempted

Never mind replacing Jewell! Redknapp could do a better job than Cleggy!

The Redknap thing is just silly speculation - however I am more concerned about getting our own good youngsters signed up on long contracts - Hyam is good and could be very good - rather give him a decent contract and wage than risk getting in more half hearted loanees

650 a week? holy shlt. if we get promoted, how much money will we receive again? so when hyam has gone from needing to work harder, to now playing a significant role in winning games to achieve promotion (or even just being a key first team member), how much is that worth per week? footballer aren't generally known for their economics prowess, neither am I, but anyone can surely see that this is seriously taking the plss.

Only giving Hyam a year's contract sums-up why Jewell and Clegg must go!

The Redknapp link is pure tabloid garbage. There is no way he would consider anything other than a Premier League job with assurances of a hefty transfer budget. I don't really rate the guy anyway. I think he's guilty of being tactically limited, his man-management can be questionable and he has a habit of leaving financial ruin in his wake.

No thanks.

As for Hyam, get him signed up on an improved contract. I don't want another club being gifted one of our gems again.

There is more chance of me becoming Pope than there is of Redknapp coming here!! Its the most unrealistic "story" I have heard in the last couple of months! What the above doesnt mention is at the infamous "golf match" PJ was plasying in the same team as ME and Redknapp and pj is good mates with Redknapp also!!

What isnt completely unrealistic is losing Hyam, £650 is a ridiculous wage for a 1st teamer!! Why oh why wasnt Hyam offered a 3 year deal??!! Then again nothing surprises me the waythe club is run these days.

Luke, we'd like to stay but we're not going to pay you much and you will lose your place to young players on loan from the EPL. How much is Luongo on?
In his position I'd go for Wolves over Leeds.

Most 'unrealistic story' since Edu was supposed to be talking to us :) - somebodies throwing in the odd red herring story, wait a minute there have been quite a few over the last month, the net is bulging (with fish not goals).

I hope it doesn't come to Redknapp..it's enough of a circus here as it is.

As for Hyam..shame on us if we lose this guy..he's what this club "used" to be about.

Bullard £18K Vs Hyam £650 per week. Just shows what sort of idiots are running our club. Hyam should be on at least £2k a week already with a more lucritive contract in the pipe line. Sort this out Clegg.

AS far as Redknapp goes, we have more chance of signing Rooney than getting him!

With Hyam and Martin in the last year of their contracts I wonder if it occurs to the management at PR to consider the cost of replacing them ? Consider these departures from PR who have all played this weekend in the Championship or Premiership Davis, McAuley, Delaney, Norris, Leadbetter, Garvan, Trotter, Rhodes. The biggest fee what got was for Davis (£1.25m) and total fees were £2.5k (£880k Rhodes, £250k Garvan and Trotter £215k). Ambrose didn't play for Birmingham yesterday but has played 3 games for them already this season and also left on a free. Other players who have left in the same period and joined Championship clubs include Naylor, Stead, and Haynes. Whatever you think of these players I think it would be a shame if Hyam was added to the list of those who left PR for not very much and then when on to do a decent job with one of our rivals. Considering how small our budget is shouldn't Luke be given a new contract before he has his head turned ?

" Jewell said he will be offering the 20-year-old, whose current deal is up at the end of the season a new contract."

And

"Hyam was given his current terms last season with manager Jewell keen to keep young players hungry and not give them too much too soon, but reward them with longer and more lucrative contracts as they progress".

So as I read that, Hyam, who wasn't a regular in the first team last season, was given a contract on low wages and told to go and prove himself, which he is doing this season and will be rewarded with a new contract.

Don't sh*t ya pants people. Good bit of management by Jewell if anything.
