Higginbotham Joins On Loan
Friday, 21st Sep 2012 18:05

Stoke's Danny Higginbotham has joined the Blues on a one-month loan. TWTD reported that the 33-year-old was on Town boss Paul Jewell's wish-list of potential additions a fortnight ago.

Jewell said: “We have been trying to add to our options at the back for a while and Danny has been on our radar through the summer.

“He will bring a wealth of experience to the squad and we’re obviously delighted to have him with us.”

Jewell confirmed in January that he had tried to sign the one-time Derby, Southampton and Sunderland man on loan during that transfer window prior to him joining Nottingham Forest on a similar spell.

The 6ft 1in tall former Manchester United trainee will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's game at home to Charlton.

Miles better than smith, however got a slight feeling Danny might come in, do well and save jewells job for him, then ditch us leaving us in this same sorry predicament a month later!

Glad we have another body in to compete for the c/b places. But seriously struggling to see how this helps us to build for the future. In my eyes ( i cud be wrong ) but this is just another stop gap to cover for the poor summer we had recruiting players. Just my opinion.

Firstly if Stoke get an injury Higginbottom won't be called back as he is not in the Stoke 25 man squad. Also have you ever thought that with a young family he may want to try us out before committing further. There is no pleasing some people on here. He has to be better than Smith.

solid signing. Didnt he and chambers play together last season too?

Since 2008 he's only played 70 times....and the last time he was a regular in the Stoke side was in 2009....I'm not sure about this signing, but he's got to be better than Smith.

stanwayblue. you have to remwmber that h32 is 1 of those fans that chopra is talking about. hes clueless. i believe its only a month to see how it goes foe both parties, then could be extended till jan after that. . oohstevepalmer, why on earth would you rather him play beside smith than chambers? apart from fact hes left footed, smith simply is having a bad time at the mo & needs to be left out both for his & the teams good. hopefully he'll come back stronger at a later time. and to those of you asking if hes a left back. no, hes a left sided central defender who can play ae left back if required.

you lot should be ashamed of yourselfs Tommy Smith as at least put effort into every performance thats more than can be said about the rest.
He played before the Olympics he played in the Olympics and then flew to New Zealand and played.
If ITFC didnt want him to go they could have stopped him going what did Jewell do played golf instead of getting a defender and let Smith have a rest.
I cannot believe most of the posts having a go shame to you all .
I just hope that Higginbottom does ok but have my doubts given Jewells track record

Gotta give the bloke a chance. Welcome and good luck Danny. Oh and the so called supporters having a pop at the lads on twitter not the best way to try and lift spirits.
COYB, keeping the faith, as always!!

Good player, could we be doing a deal next week to sign Miete permantley, hence why it's only a month deal??

This perfectly cues up Tommy Smith bashing. Sure I'm alone on this one but with the exception of the own goal on Wednesday, which was unfortunate, did anyone else notice that Tommy Smith had a damned good game!

Good signing. Loads of experience, Forest link makes me wonder if there's a natural pairing with Chambers. Could the moaners and protesters please try getting behind the team tomorrow - it could work wonders.

I would have welcomed it if wasn't for a month! He may as well not bother unpacking!!

Smacks of pure desperation to me.

Fair enough. It's a stop-gap measure because for whatever reasons we haven't been able to fill the slot with a more permanent signing. I'll certainly feel a bit better about our defence if it includes someone "with a wealth of experience" even if it's only for a month. Welcome, Danny.

My back line tomorrow would be --
Edwards chambers Higginbotham smith
Have creswell on bench or play him left midfield

If he plays tmrw he will score ,a ball attacking defender , up for set bits .
Also it would be great to see the crowd really behind the team ,that will create a istuation of us not playing with fear. If its the difference between 3 points or not then sing your hearts out for the lads and raise the roof.

Solid signing who will add experience.

However, agree with most on here that this signing should have been for longer as you need a settled defence and our's is anything but.

Welcome to Portman Road Danny

Re only a month on loan. Maybe the deal involving the fella from Swansea isn't dead and this loan deal will provide the cover we need until Swansea have their players back from injury. This will then allow the loan deal to go ahead for him (Tate?) until Jan and then made permanent. Who knows - (cue "certainly not Jewel" comments!)

Dog, our back 5 has been the same apart from Edwards' injury so that's settled - and the ball has also settled in our net too many times. righty, we cannot refuse letting Smith go to competitive internationals
