Redknapp Calls Jewell to Dismiss Town Link
Thursday, 27th Sep 2012 15:13

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that Harry Redknapp called him over the weekend to assure him that there was nothing in reports that he had been lined-up to take over at Portman Road.

Speaking to Radio Suffolk, Jewell said: "Harry rang me last Sunday and said there was absolutely no truth in it.

“The only worrying thing was at the end of the conversation he asked me what the best areas to live were!”

The Blues manager added: “The last time I saw Harry, I was with Marcus [Evans] in Portugal [for the Sir Bobby Robson Classic golf tournament].

“I said: 'You didn't have to make the phone call, Harry, because if Marcus was going to make a change, I think he'd tell me first' and it was fine."

Incorrect claims that three bookies had suspended betting regarding Redknapp taking over at Town were the trigger for the weekend speculation that the former Portsmouth and Spurs boss was set to take over at Portman Road.

I dont expect success every year Talbs77 but i do expect a competent person in charge and a team that plays good football with a purpose and some direction from the manager.like i said 20 months in charge and our defending hasnt improved a bit.how is that acceptable?
im sorry but taking the moral high ground like u do does not make u a better supporter of the club than me,if anything it shows u dont care as much as me.
If anybody out there thinks Jewell can turn this around then they know nothing about football.
And if they are happy to put up with him then they must be looking forward to League 1.
After 26 years of trapesing all over the country watching the boys for the 1st time ever i dont look forward to going anymore and thats down to 1 man.guess who?

I am probably taking your idea too seriously but protesting with banners ect is not football unless your on the verge of becoming exstinct like Portsmouth for example. I understand it when fans get really angry about managers and the board but Steve Kean for example, has been treated terribly when all he is doing is working to the best of his ablities. By all means ring up Radio Suffolk or come on here and show disgust but physically showing your anger is when things get far too personal, and would also cause a strain on the managers family as well as affecting the players on the pitch. I'd be ashamed if that kind of thing ever occured at Portman Road.

ok then lets just keep putting up with it incase we "upset somebody".
while we are at it lets not sing about opposition players or officials aswell cus that would be shamefull too!

Well said Edmund5, couldnt put it better myself.

thebeat, I do care, we all care and your right, things dont look to have improved after 20 months.

But when the great man Robson took over, he never won anything in 20 months and after a game at home to Utd when we lost 3-0, there were supporters calling for his head. the next day they had a board meeting and extended his contract, the rest is history.

Now I'm not saying pj will do the same, all I am saying is getting rid after 7 games especially with his best frontline injured is going to harm this club not improve it in my opinion.

I accept things are bad right now, and we could well lose on saturday. But I also beleive that he can turn things round if he can ride it out, grind a few wins out of nowhere and kick on. Do I think he will do that, I dont honestly know but we have to give the man a chance. After the mess he inherited he needs time.

Shouting at officials isn't quite the same, referees and officials understand they will get stick when they make decisions, that is part of football and none of it is particularly personal it is just the humour of football fans. Unless it is a situation like the Mark Halsey one which is deeply hurtful. Being a manager week in week out you are representing the football club are responsible for 20,000 people who have spent their hard earnt money too watch a football match and whilst some chants are acceptable things like banners and protests take it up a notch and cross the line IMO. Besides is that really going to improve the team? All the anamosity off the pitch really helped Blackburn stay in the League last season didn't it.

exactly we all feel similar to what thebeat is saying but whilst frustrations should be aloud to be let out you have got to try and keep a lid on your emotions.

i admit he inherited a mess and needed time but i didnt expect after 20 months in charge we would be worse than when he took over.for me thats inacceptable.what other job could u do that and get away with it? trust me he will NOT turn this around because hes just not good enough at his job.id love ti be wrong but i know im not and im ridiculously worried aboyt relegation if we dont get rid of him sooner rather than later

He didn't inherit that much of a mess - Edwards, Martin, Smith, Scotland, Hyam are still here. Mind you some of the chaff have been removed, but agree that 'turning it around' is beyond him, What does that mean anyway getting us away from the relegation zone or getting us towards the play-offs?

If anyone believes this they are as bigger fool as Jewell is for saying it, he must be trying to convince himself.
I would rather have anyone bar this idiot

Jewell in part created his own mess the first part of last season - fact.

Make no mistake the club was a complete mess when he took over. The fact Edwards, Martin, Scotland etc were here under Keane shows how much of a kak a manager he was. Indeed Martin was on loan at Charlton until pj came along. You telling me he hasnt improved under pj?

Look I am not saying I am happy with were we are, but I dont beleive right now changing the manager is going to help at this moment in time. Yes if we change now we may win a few initially and you will come on here and say how pleased you are pj has gone. But after a few losses you will then turn on the new guy.

Recent successful ITFC managers Lyall/Burley, none of them did any good the first full season, it takes time.

All these so called supporters who claim to have supported the club for 100 years or whatever should remember that!

To be fair to George Burley we were doomed when he took over at Christmas but in his first full season we missed out on the play offs on the final day of the season with a bunch of kids.

nitroblue1970:-You make a very good point, in my lowly oppinion it's not the true fans who stand out on here but the wind up merchants , the 'fans' who feel a point is'nt worth making unless it's negative or disparaging. I'm the last one here to say don't knock and complain but when it is needed and relavent. To many people use this site as a soap box to try and force their points across,Yes we all know that Paul Jewell is nearing the end barring a miracle but to read what is said on here but some people is just so boring I use this site to read the thoughts of intelligent and knowlegable (not the spelling) fans not to read JEWELL OUT a hundred times a day also mark me down all you like -3000000 means naff all at the end of the day I have a life. Talbs77 & Edmunds5 i couldn't agree more with every comment you both put! I'm as frustrated as anyone too but the board have backed him for at least another weekend so let's get behind PJ and the boys! COYB

Thebeat - are you saying (at the top of this page) that you were happier watching the team when keane was in charge???
Lets be honest about this we have seen some poor games this season but also we have seen some really good stuff but individuel mistakes have let us down and as much as the manager is in charge he is not the one who makes a terrible back pass or scores a crazy own goal.

Ipswichfan123 added 08:20 - Sep 28
Now that we have clared that up, lets get behind him and the team and try and get back to winnning ways.

we can safely assume that with everyone reading into the "where's it best to live"comments that a lot of people in suffolk do not have a grasp on harry's sense of humor!
