Hyam Signs New Contract
Thursday, 11th Oct 2012 16:22

Town midfielder Luke Hyam has put pen to paper on the contract extension until June 2014 he agreed last month. TWTD had revealed that the 20-year-old former Northgate High School pupil had begun talks regarding extending his previous deal, which he signed in February.

Hyam, whose new terms include an option for another season, told the club site: “I’m obviously pleased to have signed a new contract.

“I’ve had one year deals for a while, so this gives me some stability. Everyone knows that Ipswich is my club and I grew up watching the team play and I’d like to stay here and play for as long as I can.”

He admits he wasn’t always confident he would stay with the Blues: “I did think halfway through last season that I might have to move on.

“I wasn’t really playing any games and was a long way from getting in the first team. I could have gone out on loan but decided to stay at the club and have managed to turn things around.

“That’s been proved to be the right decision and now I just want to keep working hard and show the manager what I can do and hopefully play as many games as possible.”

Hyam, whose previous deal was understood to be worth only £650 a week, has made five first team starts this season, taking his overall appearances total to 28 including three games from the bench. The academy product is yet to score a senior goal.

I think we needed to get wellens in as cover. Hyam was/ is injured/ recovering. And I'm pretty sure you can't loan someone for a game.

Oh and well done Luke. No one deserves it more. Top lad. True professional and a great example to the other squad members.

Excellent news. The results seem so much better when he is in the team. Fingers crossed Jewell realises this and plays the lad

Hasn't anyone in the board room got a decent pen?!
Good news though, about time. Agree he should start more. Also, better going forward than given credit for.

Some people on here must be half wits!
If he isn't on the team sheet its because the manager thinks he has better options its up to luke to change his mind he can't be given a starting berth just because he is an Ipswich lad.

Yes, a positve move by Town and like a good wine he will mature with time and become a vintage Town player one hopes.

Great news. Still only 20, I wish him every success as he continues to develop his career at Town.

For those who wanted a longer contract, do remember that the duration is not just down to the club. The player (or more likely his agent) may not want to commit to a longer term.

(Would you, given the current position?)

good news, just hope he gets to play & show how good he is.
no one can question his desire to do well & he looks like he enjoys his football, instead of the pay check

They could have got a better pen made a bit of an occasion out of it. An old Bic without a top and a lever arch file. ITFC 2012
Congratulations Luke
