Venus Fancies Town Job
Thursday, 25th Oct 2012 22:58

TWTD understands that former Blue Mark Venus is amongst those to have expressed an interest in taking the helm at Portman Road. The 45-year-old is currently the assistant to his former Blues team-mate Tony Mowbray at Middlesbrough.

Venus is understood to have been on the lookout for a club of his own for a while and has been linked with his hometown club Hartlepool United in the last couple of days.

Signed from Wolves when Steve Sedgley moved in the opposite direction, the centre-half or left-back made 187 starts and four sub appearances for Town between August 1997 and July 2003.

Venus would appear to be very much an outsider for the Portman Road job with chief executive Simon Clegg hinting at last night’s Supporters Club AGM that a more experienced candidate is being sought.

Someone who may be seen as a potential candidate that fits that bill is former Stoke, Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Portsmouth boss Steve Cotterill, who was understood to have been recommended by Harry Redknapp and owner Marcus Evans’s other friends in the game after Roy Keane’s exit 21 months ago.

We also understand Redknapp’s regular assistant Kevin Bond, a former Canary, was on the list of potential successors to Jewell but is expected to follow the former Tottenham boss to his next club.

Surely, the dynamic duo couldn't cock up another appointment.
How about having a fans vote and taking note of their thoughts and feelings for a change, instead of relying on so called experts advice?
At least if it goes wrong, we've only got ourselves to blame.

No t both of these (Venus & Cotterill) : Venus has no experience and needs to get it lower down the leagues ; Cotterill has shown time and again that he is pretty clueless and his teams are dull dull dull.

Why would Harry go up north to Blackburn in favour of us. Were closer to the south coast, money available for transfers, dont have owners that require you to travel round the world once a month for meetings and he is a chum of our owners. Come on ME push the boat out and bring Harry and JJ to PR.
Venus, to big a gamble. Cotterill no thanks didnt pull up any trees last time out. Megson not a chance in.........

If Venus is half as good as Mowbray, he'll do OK as a manager and he'll be able to teach our defenders a trick or two.

He deserves at least an interview.

I wonder what the 'experts' on TWTD would have said to the appointment of Bobby Robson?
Whoever gets the job,the appointment is guaranteed to attract criticism on this site.

Venus was a fantastic player here, and one of the best bits of transfer business the club ever did, remember we got him and money in exchange for Sedgely. No idea how good a manager he'd be, but I'd rather take a risk on him than Megson McCarthy etc
