Martin Concentrating on Football Not Contract
Saturday, 27th Oct 2012 06:04

Lee Martin has willingly put his own future to one side for the time being as he forgets about a new contract and focuses fully on managerless Town’s plight at the foot of the Championship table.

Martin, 25, was signed by Roy Keane from Manchester United and will see his four-year deal expire next summer.

But while he would like nothing more than to extend his stay at Portman Road, his personal situation is not his priority right now.

Martin explained: “It’s disappointing, obviously, because you’d like to know where you’re going to be. But that’s the least of the club’s worries at the moment.

“I’m open to talk whenever the owner wants to have a chat. As far as the negotiations are concerned, we are happy to talk, but it’s a non-starter in that sense because the last time we spoke was in August.

“At the moment we need to concentrate on pulling together and get ourselves out of this mess. There are far more important things going on now. We want to turn this round quickly.”

With Paul Jewell gone it falls to caretaker boss Chris Hutchings to lead the players into today’s home clash with fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday and try to gain Town’s first win in 12 games.

Martin added: “The boys have massive respect for Hutch. He’s a great coach and I think the boys will be working 100 per cent for him. Let’s just hope that we can get the three points on Saturday.

“The atmosphere was a bit low after Paul left but Hutch and the other coaches have been trying their hardest to get us going, get some enjoyment into the sessions and get us ready for the game against Sheffield Wednesday.”

That's very good of you Lee. I don't think you've done enough to earn a new contract at the moment. Like the majority of town players, you have been consistently inconsistent. Maybe a new manager will bring out the best in you.

Time to start playing for new contract.

Why would he worry? He'll be able to follow in the footsteps of Macauley, Norris etc!!!

Has been far too inconsistent - and should score far more goals than he does - I predict he will not sign another contract and will probably sign for another championship club which has money than Town.
Perhaps then Josh Carson may be given an opportunity ?

Wonder if Martins contract had been delayed by Clegg so they could see if Jewell could turn it around.

Has Lee ever thought the new manager might not want him, If he had signed a new contract say a 3 year one the new man would be stuck with him as how can you sell him when he is playing so inconsistent

if he hasn't signed a new contract by January then he must be transfer listed and sold to save yet another player walking away for nothing,In fact sell him in January and get Boyd in!

Lee is only waiting to see where in the league we are. If we look like cannon fodder to Div 1 next season he will be off. Get him on the transfer list now are recoup some money if he hasn't signed by Christmas.

Have to agree Martin has been very in and out of form and particularly out this season, he really needs to step it up in the next few months if he wants a new contract other than that sell him in the next transfer window if we don't think he's done enough (

Do one Martin, You haven't earned a new contract. Never takes anyone on, just keeps passing it backwards, would rather see Edwards in Midfield or give Carson a go. Another poor Keane signing on big money.

that is really noble of lee martin to now put the team first, now that we are 2nd from bottom, manager sacked and then defeated at home 3-0!!! what a fricking hero. team should come first all the frickin time.

After seeing his performance today I'm glad he is concentrating on his football, otherwise he would be worse than useless, today he was just useless, if he was as good as he thinks he is, we would have a world beater

Got involved in an argument with a supporter today near the players entrance, and offered the guy out, if you get my meaning? Sad to see.

Petulant reaction at the end of the game today. 'Busy' when it didn't matter, largely clueless when it did. That said, he wasn't alone in that regard.

Has probably had half a dozen decent games for us in his time here. Complete waste of money. Should take lessons from Edwards in how to beat a player. Hasn't done anywhere near enough to earn another contract here. Can't see anybody else wanting him though.

That bloke LM doesn't deserve to wear the blue of ITFC a bloke that showed me wot an idiot he really is hides away all game and doesn't want the ball never calls for it and then when someone shouts at him from the family enclosure he can hear that and has heard that for the last 3 or 4 games so he is obviously concentrating on the game and when he reacted to that passionate fan and LC held him back he needs to show that feeling in the game headless chicken no idea how he plays 90 mins every game when clearly he needs to be taken off don't sign u big time Charlie and he hasn't show any other team any reason to sign him he reacts like that to someone that helps pay his wages !!!!SHAME ON YOU
