The ITFC Charitable Trust is looking for more schools to take part in its Activ8it Plus programme, which is aimed at teaching Suffolk’s youngsters how to live a healthier lifestyle. Spaces are currently available for primary school children with the programme suitable for Years Four, Five and Six.

Activ8it Plus is a specialist programme run, without cost to the participating schools, by the Trust’s healthy lifestyle advisor James Colchester. The programme offers schools across Suffolk six free sessions, held during the school day.

James delivers the programme in the school with the lessons teaching the children how to lead a healthy lifestyle, as well as entertaining them with an hour of multisport.

These educational lessons focus on the importance of breakfast, foodstuffs in general, getting your five a day and the merits of exercise and hydration when it comes to learning.

The sport aspect of the sessions can be a mixture of sports or tailored to the school’s requirements, for example a full six weeks of one particular sport.

Mr Ashton, a teacher at Whitton Primary School in Ipswich, has students who have already seen the benefit of the Trust’s Active8it Plus programme.

“It was especially good and useful to get a variety in our science and PE lessons as it adds something extra to the educational experience,” he said.

“The style of delivery was impressive, incorporating various teaching strategies. It enabled James to keep the children’s attention and to manage behaviour.”
