A Loan Again Orr
Tuesday, 13th Nov 2012 23:36

Town are set to sign Blackburn right-back Bradley Orr on loan, according to a national newspaper. The 30-year-old has been left on the bench since Henning Berg took over as manager at Ewood Park.

Orr started his career with Newcastle, during which time he was linked with the Blues, spending a period on loan at Burnley while with the Magpies. In 2004 the 6ft-tall full-back joined Bristol City and he was to spend the next six years at Ashton Gate.

In July 2010 he moved on to QPR where he helped Neil Warnock’s side to the Championship title. Having featured only fleetingly after their promotion to the Premier League, the Liverpudlian joined Blackburn in January 2012.

Orr will be best remember by Town fans for being sent off in the Blues’ 6-0 victory over Bristol City in November 2007.

A move for a right-back is no surprise with Blues manager Mick McCarthy having said he prefers to see skipper Carlos Edwards in midfield.

The addition of Orr would take Town's total of domestic loanees back to five, the maximum permitted in a matchday 18 with Stephen Henderson, Danny Higginbotham, DJ Campbell and Bilel Moshni already at the club.

At the weekend, McCarthy said he was keen for Richie Wellens to return from Leicester, his month having ended after Saturday's 2-1 victory over Burnley.

Arsenal's Emmanuel Frimpong is believed to be viewed as a possible contingency should Leicester not want to extend the 32-year-old's spell, although McCarthy may not be keen to take the loan total back to six where he would always have to leave a player out of the squad, Massimo Luongo having recently been sent back to Spurs in such circumstances.

Football League clubs are permitted to bring 'emergency' loanees in until the deadline on Thursday of next week.

Good move if it comes off. Loans are not necessarily a bad thing and, as others have said, we can't buy players at the mo so good loanees will help us get out of the mess we're in.
The moves MM is making so far give me good hope for January onwards.

Edwards was the weak link in defence for 20 months. McCarthy has noted this almost immediately. For just that reason, let alone others, he deserves time to sort things.

When January comes, however, I'd like to see some permaments coming in to replace most of the loanees.

see the difference that Edwards makes right midfield in one game ..
its mind boggling that two previous managers could not have worked this out.
also possibly crosswell playing midfield ?
after all on his day cresswell has a superb delivery .

IN MICK WE TRUST ...

This has nothing to do with a short term fix to get out of the bottom 3. This is nothing more than straight forward common sense and dealing with the bleedin obvious.

Virtually every fan with a brain (SitfcB excluded) has known that a) David Wright was the last RB the club had on it's books b) Carlos Edwards is no RB!

Such a shame it's taken THREE managers to realise this. Thank F*** for MIck!

Potentially these are only loans for a few weeks because come January they could be our players as if they impress then Evans can be the cheque book out.

People were complaining with the players we did have nd so this is the only option.

I really dislike the transfer window because unless you are going to splash well over the odds for a player, teams are reluctant to let anyone go just encase of injuries. Once the window shuts and exams get going, that's when teams realise who they want and don't want so our only choice is to get them on loan.

It's not ideal but we gotta do the best we can.

I agree, in MM we trust :-)

A strong Christmas period and things will be looking up.

That's just the most terrific headline. Wow.

Anyway, it would be a good signing in a position that needs to be filled. However, I think it would rule out another loan, such as for Frimpong, but I'd rather have Orr, and trust Hyam or someone else in midfield, than I would playing Chambers (or *shudder* Edwards) at right back.

Fantastic headline. Even better than "Red hot Currie stings R's" after a QPR game a few years back.

Orr has great pedigree at this level: got promoted with QPR in 2011 and was in the Championship team of the year in 2008. Would be the first natural right back at PR since David Wright. Allows Edwards to play right wing, Chambers can move inside when Higginbotham goes back to Stoke over Christmas. Would love Frimpong and Wickham too, just hope MM is given the resources to tie down a few of our loanees and short term contracts on a more permanent basis to add some stability to the side.

One of Jeff Stelling's best ever lines feature our Bradley...

'When the Venky's came into own Blackburn they promoised superstar signing's like Ronaldinhio or Beckham....and true to their word they have signed one of them....Bradley Orr'

Will be a good signing but strange as hewitt is on the road to recovery.

Or Phil may be referring to one of the many other cover versions such as UFO's on their 'Lights Out' album - the standabout track on that was 'Electric Phase' though. Or he could have misremembered or elided Gilbert O'Sullivan's 'Alone Again...Naturally'.

In one of those wierd bits of happenstance that seem like synchroncity but are just a product of the speed of life I copied 'Forever Changes' off my ancient vinyl onto MP3 last week and was wandering around Cambridge swept up in simple complexity of the whole thing, even 'You Set The Scene' which I have always found slightly crass, just last Thursday. And did McCarthy sign Orr by personal contact or did he get on 'The Red Telephone'?

Some of you lot make me laugh and cry in equal measure! MM has gone out and signed a great Right Back who will stem the number of goals we have been conceding and all you can do is bloody moan about him being another loan signing!!!! How the hell is MM going to improve the team in the short term without the use of loans or free agents? If you are going to have a moan then moan about the clueless idiot Jewel who had 2 years to sort us out a proper RB but chose to do sod all about it! Bradley Orr wants to be here and this will most probably end up being a permanent signing in January. So just stop your bleeding moaning and get behind the MM rebuilding project.
