Coach Sean McCarthy and scouts David Hamilton and Mark Seagraves have left Portman Road, while manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed the expected appointments of long-time associates Dave Bowman and Ian Evans to his scouting staff.

McCarthy said: “Me and Terry do the coaching, we’ve got a coach too many. Mark Kennedy will continue doing the U21s and I don’t need another first team coach. Dave Bowman will come in and Ian Evans will come in in recruitment.”

The Blues boss had praise for Sean McCarthy, who was brought to the club by former boss Paul Jewell: “Sean was excellent, he was very helpful in our transition, in our coming into the club. He was very professional and to the very end he was a perfect gent.”

Bowman and Evans both left their roles at Wolves shortly after McCarthy’s appointment at Town with the expectation that they would follow him to Portman Road.

Egham-born Evans, known as Taff, was the Wolves European scout having previously been McCarthy’s assistant manager at Molineux, as well as being on his staff at Millwall, Sunderland and with the Republic of Ireland, including during the World Cup in 2002.

The former Wales international played with QPR, Crystal Palace, Barnsley, Exeter and Cambridge United as a defender and was also assistant manager to Steve Coppell at Crystal Palace for five years and boss at Swansea City.

Bowman, who was the chief scout at Wolves, first linked up with McCarthy and Evans at Barnsley and was with them at Millwall, Sunderland and with the Republic of Ireland, where he also worked under Brian Kerr and Steve Staunton.

McCarthy said: “Dave has been a consultant with me for a long time in terms of scouting and Ian will be a scout as well. [He was European scout with Wolves] and he’ll do that for us as well.

“England, Wales and Scotland are in Europe as well, but he will travel abroad and he’s got a good network in France and Belgium certainly, and he did quite a bit in Spain.”

McCarthy, who says that that will be the extent of his backroom changes for now, confirmed that full-time scouts David Hamilton and Mark Seagraves, both appointed by his predecessor, are no longer at the club:
“No, they’re gone.”

Chief scout Steve McCall, a member of Sir Bobby Robson's 1981 UEFA Cup-winning side, remains with the Blues.

Steve_ITFC_Sweden added 06:23 - Nov 27 "Is Klug still here?" I should damn well hope so! This man is the only remains we have of the true ITFC we all knew and loved. Incredibly, Keane got rid of him (well, maybe it wasn't that incredible come to think of it...) but he had the grace to come back. Klug is an Ipswich legend and I hope he stays until he retires! If we want to get back to re-building via youth, there is no better man to lead us.
