Edwards After Goals Friday, 4th Jan 2013 06:03 Skipper Carlos Edwards is happy with his current form for Ipswich — with one notable exception. The former Sunderland star, who has been operating on the right of midfield since Mick McCarthy took charge, admits he would like to offer more of a goal threat. Edwards said: “I’m happy with my own form but obviously there is still a lot more that I can do. I don’t know why I’m holding back but I’m fairly pleased with the way I’m going about things. “I just hope I can get better as the season goes on. I think I should be chipping in with more goals. That’s a part of my game that seems to have been missing for 18 months or so and I just hope one can come along sooner rather than later. “Once I get the first one, more will hopefully follow. We can’t just depend on the strikers for the goals. There comes a time when the midfielders have to step in and give a good account of themselves by scoring a goal or two.” Edwards, who made the right-back berth his own under previous boss Paul Jewell, has yet to score this season and also drew a blank in the 2011/12 campaign. The last time he was on target was in the 2-0 home league win over Scunthorpe in March 2011 and he has so far contributed a total of six goals in his 154 senior appearances for Town. Edwards is now in his fourth season at Portman Road but isn't thinking about a future away from Portman Road. He is thinking more in terms of extending his stay by agreeing a new 12-month deal, just as he did last year with an agreement that includes a clause entitling him to an extension as long as he clocks up an agreed number of first team appearances in the current campaign. Edwards said: “It’s 30-odd games I think but I don’t honestly know if it’s my option or the club’s. It’s confusing for me and at the end of the day, hopefully, it will all be resolved. “Right now I’m enjoying my football and hopefully I will be here next season.”
